Under the direction of Mr. Richard Kemm, the group performed at 25 home athletic events and two out of town contests. Among the parades the band participated in were the Christmas and Fall Festival at home, Ncewollah at Independence, and the Corn Festival at Erie. The band also partici- pated in the SEK League Band Festival at Inde- pendence in March, presented a concert on Feb- ruary 9, and played for Commencement exercises. A highlight of the school year at PJC was the band concert, Mr. Kemm's first as director in Par- sons. A large American flag was illuminated by a spotlight as the band opened its concert by play- ing The Star Spangled Banner. During the course of the varied program Ann Chester and Gene Peoples played instrumental solos and Bob .lobe sang I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts, with the band singing a chorus for the latter. During the basketball season a German band was organized by five members of the band and Leon Womble, who served more or less as direct- or. For a time they lived in the same house amid constant dis- agreement, hilt through the help of a blizzard they finally became friends.
