Their hair received a treatment of lemon and chocolate pudding and whipped cream with blue feathers to make them most attractive and appealing to the student body. Their initiation continued throughout the day and included a bit more at lunch time. The princesses enjoyed their initiation but vowed to get revenge, which they did when it came their turn to initiate the Basketball Homecoming King nominees. 14 Nlonday, Oct. 18 marked the first day of Homecoming week. With only 7 returning lettermen and a host of underclassmen this season seemed to be a rebuilding one for the Eagles. When predictions came out by the l1experts the Eagles were rated to finish in the cellar ofthe SAL. Rebuilding was not the intent though by the team and they showed it. Time and time again, La Sierra defeated teams they were-n't expected to. When all the dust had settled from league play La Sierra had not iinished last but were the 1976 San Andreas League Champions with a league record of 5 - 1 - 1 and an overall record of 6 - 1 - 2. Much credit goes to Coach Roger Folsom and his staff to guilding the young team to victory. For his accomplishments Coach Folsom was named the Coach of the Year in Riverside County. Joyce Higashida, Michele Means, Kathy Johnson and Venita Calvo were returning members of the team. These girls continued to develop their game and were vital assets to the team. Throughout the season, Joyce Higashida played number one and was a threat to our opponents. Unanimously, she was voted Most Valuable Player. As the season progressed, Michele Means became a top contenderin the league. Michele's continuous improvement and spirit gained her the Coaches Award. New team members were Linda Eugenias, Mary Herzberg, Janice Kreigbaum, Barb Lamb, Dawn Mertz, and Debbie Wood. Each girl worked hard on their game and contributed greatly to the team, The 1976 building season will bring a 1977 winning season. Each year girls tennis becomes a bigger and more popular sport at La Sierra due to the combined efforts of the team members, the coaches and the Booster Club. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. 3,1 OUV5 Ti'lEll'S 1716 1716 416 13 516 Valley 1716 ' 5 1516 1 i-L V I i P t I Cross Countr Runs Back Row tl to rl D. Bitter, S. Jensen, K. May you build a ladder to the stars And clhnb on every rung, And may you stay forever young. May you grow up to be righteous, May you grow up to be true, May you always know the truth, And see the lights surrounding you. May you always be courageous Stand upright and be strong, And may you stay forever young.
