Armijo 26 La Sierra 13 An unbeatable combination of bad breaks and un- fortunate penalties united to deal the Longhorn varsity their first league defeat against Armijo. Despite the fact that the Longhorns punched the ball across the goal 5 times in the first half, only 2 of these TD’s counted on the scoreboard. In spite of these bad breaks, the varsity left the field at half time in the lead, only to see that lead slowly whittled away. Beauchamp Catches a Pass For The First Down L.S. 14 El Dorado 6 The boys from El Dorado came down planning to upset the Longhorns, but they failed thanks to the talents of some great ball players. Lombardo and Bockoven reeled off much yardage during the night and even Pagenkopf tried some footwork, gaining quite a few yards much to his own sur- prise. La Sierra 32 San Juan 6 As the Sacramento Bee was later to comment, this was the grid upset of the year. That statement, refer- ring to the Spartan’s defeat by La Sierra, was one of the most truthful to ever grace the pages of the afore- mentioned journal. In this game we could do no wrong. Pagenkoph intercepted two passes, running one back all the way, and threw another TD to Brown to tally again. Hayden made a tremendous 70 yard dash after powering his way through 3 would-be tacklers.
