WORK! WORK! were the demands that poured into the office of Carl Lidman, district superin- tendent of grounds and buildings, as he went back and forth from La Puente High School to Los Altos High School campuses repairing lock- ers, fixing sprinklers, painting, and working out roof and heating problems. Under his supervis- ion landscaping, mowing lawns, weeding, trim- ming shrubs were iust a few of the many tasks that the campus gardeners tackled in a day's work. John M. Barber, district transportation foreman, solved not only the usual problems that arose when transporting students to school and home again, but also the many problems that came up when trying to route one bus for the two schools. He and the other bus drivers kept the fleet of buses and other school vehicles in per- fect running order, William King, head custodian, and his hard-working staff kept the class rooms and offices sparkling clean with the daily rou- tine of sweeping and polishing floors, cleaning blackboards, and emptying wastebaskets, John T. Barber, district warehouse superintendent, handled the duties that are connected with ship- ping and receiving supplies and kept a record of all materials on hand in the warehouse.
