To Satisfu Dersonal Needs Of Students NO SCHOOL can be run wsthout an expert Guzdance Department which arms to be concerned wuth the pro gress and well beung ot every snngle student and La Puente Hugh has one ofthe most alert Capably headed by Dnrector ot Guudance Patrick Mauch who was as slsted by the services of 10 able counselors the De partment gunded the destunles ot some 2200 students durlng their tour years at LaPHS While Mr Mauch was busy administering such tests as the battery glven to all Freshmen and transfer students the CAT gnven to all Englush classes the SQT and the Natlonal Merut Qual ntynng Test to tumors and seniors the counselors sympa thetucally attempted to solve student problems whatever they might have been Counselors Wnlluam Sandnson and Mrs Helen Black gave helpful advnce to inexperienced freshmen lnterested sophomores were arded by Counselors Louis Rudder and Mass Ruth Leger whale the establlshed tumors were glven professional help from Counselors Harold Pearce and Mrs Georgia Dells Counselors Mrs Bertha Sprong Harold Pearce and Thomas Johnson answered the sen nors vaned nnqurrues about scholarships and college Mrs Helen DeSnmone and Daniel Ruchard counseled the specnalnzed and P R students respectlvely College Nnght tor lunuors and seniors orlentatuon of exghth graders and pre regvstratzon of LaPHS students early In the year were other actnvntues' organuzed by the department l.aPHS SYMPATHETIC COUNSELING STAFF-Rlchard Rnchards Harold Pearce Georglo Dells Bertha Sprong Thomas Johnson Patnck Mouch Ruth Leger Louis Rudder Helen Black Wllllam Sandlson and Helen DeSlmone helped students choose colleges apply for scholarships fulfull mulntary obligations ad vnsed them concermng grades and course changes and answered the many questlons pertaumng to courses and requxrements tor graduatlon

MORNING NOON and after school LaPHS students kept Mrs Frances Knight librarian secretary inf HEAD LIBRARIAN William Strange carefully processed the many new books acquired and saw to it that the library was a quiet place to study and her student helpers on the go either checking books or trying to find the right reference novel or biography Librarian Nurse Nlinistered To Students TESTING the hearing of the LaPl-'IS students by means of the sensitive device the audiorneter was lust one of the many services that School Nurse Mrs Lettie Kohlenberger fulfilled INNUMERABLE services furnished by the school authorities promoted o feeling of wellbeing among all LaPHS students Foremost among these was one that came from the deep sense of security because the school nurse Mrs Lettie Kohlenberger was always ready with advice and first and for unforeseen emergencies B sides this she maintained health records of every student on campus gave hearing and vision tests and health counseling as a few of her many duties at LaPl-IS. Students were also conscious of another service that stemmed from the willing assistance of William Strange, school librarian. l-le supervised the selection, classification, and circulation of the books. His assistant, Mrs. Frances Knight, li- brary secretary, received requests for audio-vis- ual eauipment as well as checking out books to students. The beautiful and spacious year-old library, constantly developing, increased its cir- culation by adding l5OO books during the sum- mer. Whether studying for a test or reading for relaxation, the LaPHS library was a quiet and restful place in which to work.
