Trailing Roosevelt's Rough Riders of East Chicago, they were ranked second in the state. In the battle for the mythical state championship the East Chi- cagoans thumped the Slicers, 30 to 0, thereby also capturing the conference crown. Bob Ehrick was voted the team's most valuable player and Ted Stepanek was honored as captain. Dick Alban was named the most valuable player in the eastern divi- sion by a vote of the conference coaches. The junior quarterback was also named to three prominent all-state teams. Charlie Alsop, 210-pound left tackle, was named on two major all-state elevens. The season was the most successful one ever enjoyed by a LaPorte Slicer team, eclips- ing the 1939 record which listed seven wins, one loss and a tie. Alban led the team in total yards gained from scrimmage and shared the individual scoring championship with Walt Miller, senior fullback. 'i COACHING STAFF BASKETBALL FOOTBALL Norman J.
