He advanced to Master Chief Damage Controlman in April 1992 while serving as Group Dam- age Control Assistant on board the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Group SIX. Master Chief Cantillo served as Com- mand Master Chief, Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region ONE, Newport, Rhode Island from June 1994 to July 1996. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy. Master Chief Cantillo currently serves as the Command Master Chief in USS LA MOURE COUNTY LST 19945. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, two Navy Achievement Medals, five Meritorious Unit Commendations, five Navy Good Con- duct Medals, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Medal with Bronze Star, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Naval Reserve Sea Service Ribbon with Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Expert Pistol Medal. -1 Master Chief Damage Controlman Cdurface Warfare? Dominic J. Cantillo C Master Chief Cantillo joined the Navy in the fall of 1973 and completed his Basic Training at Naval Technical Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. His first Fleet assignment was on board USS HOWARD W. GILMORE CAS-165 where he served as a Deck Seaman. While assigned to GILMORE he attended and graduated Hull Maintenance Technician HAI, School, San Diego, California and was designated a Hull Technician. In 1975 he transferred to USS FULTON CAS-115 where he was assigned duty as a Pipefitter. During this tour he advanced to Petty Officer Third Class and qualified as a High Pressure Silver Brazer. His next assignment was to the Engineering Repair Division. Master Chief Cantillo was honorably discharged from active Naval service in 1980. He continued his Naval career as a Selective Reservist assigned to USS FULTON CAS-115 in New London, Connecticut. In August 1981 he returned to active service in the Training and Administration of Reserves CTARJ program, and was assigned to the Hull Repair Department as Pipe Shop Work Center Supervisor on board Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity CSIMAJ, Newport, Rhode Island. He returned to sea duty in March 1982 on board USS MILLER CFF-10915 where he served as R-Division Work Center Supervisor. While on board MILLER he was designated an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, High Pressure Welder, and ad- vanced to Petty Officer First Class. His next assignment was to USS WADSWORTH CFFG-95 as E-2 Division and Damage Control Work Center Leading Petty Officer. He- was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in April 1986 and was transferred to Naval Reserve Center, Quincy, Massachusetts, as Training Department Head, Command Career Counselor and Command Chief. While at Naval Reserve Center Quincy- he cross-rated to Damage Controlman.
