After completion of recruit training at Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Basic Sub- marine School, New London, Connecticut- and was assigned duty on the USS CHOPPER CSS-3421. While on CHOPPER he was qualified in submarines Cenlistedl and earned the right to wear the silver dolphins. In September 1951 he was ordered to the USS SPIKEFISH CSS-4045 as leading Commissaryman and served on SPIKEFISH un- til October 1954 when he was ordered to Naval Recruiting Sub-Station, Syracuse, New York. In March 1955, he was selected for Naval Officer Can- didate School Newport Rhode Island under the integra- tion or Seaman to Admiral program. Upon graduation in August 1956 he was commissioned Ensign and reported aboard the destroyer USS HIGH PURVIS QDD- 7095. While on PURVIS he served as Communications Officer First Lieutenant and Gunnery Officer. Com- mander SABINE was transferred to the Naval Recruiting Station Richmond Virginia in September 1959 as Officer Programs Officer. In July 1961 he was ordered to the USS TRUCKEE CAO- 147J as Operations Officer. In October 1963 he was transferred to the Amphibious Operational Training Unit Little Creek Virginia where he served as Weapons Officer and Senior Ship Rider. a cc aa 7 a 9 3 1 a . a a 1 A M., ....................... 1 . ............. Sabine COMMANDER, U.S. NAVY COMMANDING OFFICER In August 1965 he was ordered to USS KANKAKEE CAO-395 as Executive Officer and served in this position until December 1967 when he was ordered to the Staff of Commander Naval Forces Vietnam where he served as Current Plans Officer until February 1969. In March 1969 he reported to the Naval Amphibious School, Little Creek, Virginia where he served as Director Special Operations Department, responsible for CounterinsurgencyfSurvival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Training and Basic Underwater Demolition Team!Sea1 Training. During this tour he earned his Gold Parachutist Wings. In March 1971 he left to report as Executive Officer of USS SAVANNAH CAOR-41 where he served until September 1972. In October 1972 he assumed duties as Commander Inshore Undersea Warfare Group TWO, Little Creek. Prior to receiving orders as Commanding Officer, USS LA MOURE COUNTY CLST 11915, Commander SABINE was Operations Officer, Naval Inshore Warfare, U. S. Atlantic Fleet. Commander SABINE is married to the former Rita LeBlanc of Norwich, Connecticut. They have three children, Debra, Stephen and Ralph and currently reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
