Miami Vice AIDS Apartheid. Ethiopia. Back To The Future. Cindy Lauper Madonna and Sean Penn. Rock Hudson. Pee Wee Herman. Whoopi Goldberg. Princess Di. Bruce Springsteen, the Boss. Rambo The Refrigerator. Live-Aid. SADD. Khadafi. ln twenty years when you show your children this yearbook, these words will bring to mind many memories of your life in 1986 We have captured observations in outer space, on our planet, and around our school. 1986 is unique for you because for the first, and most likely the last time, you will be able to observe Hal- ley s Comet, an occurrence which happens only every 76 years. To commemorate the passing of Halley's Comet. Country Day has built an obser- vatory which will allow us to better understand the gallaxy in which we live. Outdoor Education provided Country Day students with an opportunity to observe the planet they inhabit and put them in closer touch with the world out there. Our 11th and 12th graders previewed East and West Coast colleges, 10th grade hiked the Bryce and Zion trails. Oth grade exper- ienced nature face to face in Yosemite, 8th grade retreated to the wilderness of Big Bear, 7th grade learned about ma- rine life at Catalina, and Lower School took many assorted educational field trips. As we focus our telescope on Country Day, we observe a fun-packed, educa- tianally-alive environment. Starting the year with a bang, Student Council passed out lollipops and bubbles to wel- come students back to school. And be- fore we knew it, it was time for the 3rd annual Country Faire, 7th annual Grand- parents' Day, the 3rd annual Career Day, and a brand new experience for Country Day - our first annual Homecoming! Home- coming kicked off with Spirit Week and fin- ished with a formal dance and a victory over Parker that clinched our first coastal league title in 13 years. As time moved on. we enjoyed the Holiday Concert performed by grades 9-12 and final exams performed by grades 9-12. Semester break was a welcome relief. In the spring we enjoyed the Middle School Biography Faire, the Festival of the Arts, and as- sorted school plays. We have preserved for you many other observa- tions of the '8O's on the following pages, including our Time Capsule at the end of the book. Twenty years from now when your children open this book they'll laugh at stretch pants, charm necklaces and Hard Rock Cafe t- shirts And thirty years from now your kids will be wearing stretch pants charm necklaces. and Hard Rock Cafe t-shirts. And so with no further ado, we take you back to the present where you can enioy the memories of 1986. fl if rim, lf l ri? we . is 1 Recess is my favorite subject!
