The Music DeparTmenT, direcTed by KeiTh Heldman, came hfo The spoTlighT many Times in 4985 and 86. The Upper School musical, Fiddler On The Roof, played for Three highTs in March. Mrs. YouTkus's Middle School was also seen on sfage when fifTh and sixTh graders performed a Musical Revue in April, and The sevenTh and eighTh graders did so in May. The whole school parTicipaTed in evenTs such as GrandparenT's Day and The WinTer Holiday Concerf as well as The FesTival of The ArTs in June. The Madrigal singers, consTiTuTing TalenTed Upper School sTudenTs, have consis- TenTly placed in boTh local and naTional compeTiTions. They Topped off The year by Traveling To Hawaii for a major Music Fesfival Compefifion. lAs well as brighTening up GrandparenTs' Day, The Lower School had a spring assembly and a 1lTh grade musical in May. The new music room was a welcome addiTion To The faciliTies as well as a loT of new songs ThaT were added To The program. However, The staff did scrape by with The skin 's teeth a few times. But The rush To meet deadlines wasn'T all bad. ryone shared The Traditional Take-out pizzas while drawing layouts, g copy and cropping pictures. The staff was run by editor Jenny man who was able to delegate responsibility, adapt To changes, and ept The power To make snap decisions, as staff member Jodi Fein- says. The staff consisted of editors for each section and new staff ctionately referred To as peons. Other new changes for The year- included its addition tothe rotating schedule which gave The staff an to meet more often. To show Their appreciation for a job well done, Jenny and Ms. Angelo Threw periodical surprise parties for The staff, such as a gala Christmas banquet which was held on December 6, The room was decorated with Tablecloths, candles, roses and a Christmas Tree. The staff was seated by a maiTre'd and served sparkling cider and pizza. Santa even paid a visit bearing gifts from Ms. Angelo to The staff. Each member received a shirt with his or her name and position on The back. ln March, when all The pages had been sent in To The plant, Ms. Angelo began interviewing prospective new members while The old staff began Training for higher positions. When Jenny was asked to summarize her year as editor, she said, Take Two aspirin and call The advisor in The morning.
