ABNF '47- -Q' For the second consecutive year the Torres were the top cross country team in California for schools with enrollments under 500. Only a series of events during the final weeks of the season prevented the team from winning the first CIF championship ever by a Southern League Team. During season the team defeated 85 teams from four states, tied one and lost to seven others. Five of those losses were to teams which later won state ships, CIF section championships or were runners up in section meets. The team won three major invitationals, tied for first in one and was runner a fifth. Torres runners, besides winning the Southern League for the second year in a row, took half of the All-League awards. Brian Davis and Erik became the first ever All-ClF cross country runners from the Southern League. Co-Team Captains Davis and Don Davidson provided superb during the season. Senior Hjermstad and four year letterman Bill Pollock will be missed next year. Rachelle Smith established herself as a distance with a future by winning several medals and a trophy during the season. Top runner of the year was freshman Andy Morabe, undefeated in dual meets, winning three invitationals and finishing second in two others. clocked the fastest time of over 2,000 freshman at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio Invitational. Although unable to compete in the CIF champions
