Volleyball Goes To CIF Finals Front Row: Margie Milligan, Randi Shaw, Kathy Stafford, Maria Judy, Beth Royer, Wyndham Elliott Middle Row: Sharon Burges Barbara Wright, Mary Beverly, Karen Brecka, Kristen Ralph, Coach Gans Back Row: Debbie McCoy, Sally McCoy, Judy Becket Jodi Wigley, Erin Smith, Missing: Stacy Tompkins v '-xxx T tae Almost overnight, blue lines appeared on the gym floor outlining a new volleyball court, and a sand volleyball court was built outside. This was very appropriate, as there is an interest in volleyball among L.J .C.D.S. students and parents as never before. Spectators fill the bleachers at every game. Six veterans and ten rookies are on the team roster, and many of these girls attended volleyball camps and joined volleyball clubs over the summer. The improvements were evident in their style of playing. It was more aggressive volleyball than in previous years, and with the help of Mrs. Gans' coaching, the team had their best year ever: a 10-win 2-loss record that took them to the C.I.F. finals. There, Francis Parker School won by a close score of 15-13, 15-12 in the most exciting and competitive game of the season. Barbara Wright, Debbie McCoy, Maria Judy, Erin Smith, Mary Beverly, Jodi Wigley, Karen Becka, Sharon Burges, and Sally McCoy make up the varsity team. Barbara Wright received the honor of being named on the All-C.I.F. First Team. The junior varsity consists of freshmen and new students: Kathy Stafford, Margie Milligan, Kristen Ralph, Beth Royer, Wyndham Elliott, Randi Shaw, Stacy Tomp- kins, and Judy Beckett, The Country Day Volleyball team has a bright future, hav- ing only four graduating seniors and a lot of available talent from the J.V. Over the years, the team has been able to maintain the enthusiasm and the spirit needed to win games and have fun at the same time. 1?-3-7,-ff . , -0 fm-- .IQ Y, . -41 . H- 1
