Thanks for the Memoriesp' Our little band of skittery Colts joined the mighty Mustang herd singing the tune I've Been Working on the Railroad. We elected Ron Orr as our President with Mr. Stangl as sponsor. The highlight of the year was,. Hernando's Hideaway, our Freshman Frolic. The next year, we took our revenge out on the incoming fresh- men during initiation. That year we chose Donna Ostergaard as Presi- dent and Mr. Stangl was our sponsor. The theme of our Sophomore dance was Skiland. Ron Orr was again elected President and Mr. Stangl was sponsor in our Junior year. Our first project was the Junior Carnival. Next came our play Boardinghouse Reach. To top our year off was our Prom with a trip into the stars, using the theme, On the Threshold of Space. During our Senior year, Dick McQueary was chosen President. Miss Head and Mrs. Simmons were our sponsors. Dick Browning was elected student body President. Ed and Nancy Pickering reigned as Homecoming King and Queen. Our money-making projects for our senior trip were varied and plentiful. We ended our high school years on May 28, 1958, Graduation Day, as the first class to spend four years in the new high school building. Although all of us may never be together, we will have many memories to carry throughout life with us. Our four years in KUHS were colorful, fun, and unforgettable. To everyone who helped shape these four years we'd like to say, Thanks for the Memories. We were blessed with two good sponsors. Mrs. Shoffner and Mr, Cantril. A11 of us looked forward to Homecoming and decorating the jun- ior float, a football helmet, Next on the agenda 'was the Junior Carnival which produced fun and frolic for all. We spent lots of good hard work to build the booths and ten minutes to tear them down. Our Junior play was a big event with an exciting mystery for its vivacious characters to solve. The biggest, and the event most looked forward to was the Jun- ior-Senior Prom. Gazing at the frills and ruffles of the girls in their formals, the boys in their sharp-cut dinner jackets and the divine music of the B1ue Notes makes a person wish things as good as this could go on forever. Our sponsor was Mr. GIBHI1 Channell. One of our happy days was initiating 33 freshmen. Onions, Lim- burger cheese, tin cans, and other little freshmen necessities were seen in the halls of KUHS. At the sotmd of a whistle, little freshmen would fall on their knees exclaiming in a meek but husky voice, Hail to the sophomores, beat Hayden! In the afternoon each of the freshmen had a stunt to perform, then bravely swallowed the Mustang flesh and blood. At Homecoming our float was a large dog house to lock the Carbondale Bulldogs in. We received first prize, Oh Happy Day. Our last project was our Sophomore Shuffle with the theme White Christmas. These were the Happy Days remembered by the Sophomore Class. Getting to Know You? September 9, 1957 we 36 eager f??j and inquisitive U lj Fresh- men stood on the steps of KUHS, shaking in our shoes, wondering if we would ever get to know you. While we were wondering what everyone was like, we found that a freshman initiation would soon be held. Down the halls we clomped, with sacks of tin cans on our backs and KUHS written in lipstick all over our faces. fwe got to know you rhenlj After eating the Mustang flesh Qughj, and drinking the blood Qnot quite as bady, we became a part of the Mustang herd. When Homecoming rolled around, the freshmen got busy and made a float. It won second place! Our sponsor for the year was Mr. G. Chesher. Girls' State which was held June 12-18 at Colorado Womens College is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Boys' State, sponsored by the American Legion, was held at Colorado University from June 14-21. Junior girls and boys from all over the state of Colorado attend these week long programs learning the fundamentals of government, the responsibilities of a citizen, and how our democracy is run by setting up a mock government of their own. The first KUHS students to attend Girls' and Boys' State were Donna Oitergaard and Ron Orr. Other schools will be added the second and third years until as many as twenty- five will be taking part in the project. The Ford Foundation Fund for the Advancement of Education has provided a grant of 5104, 500 to finance the program. The purposes of the study are to develop techniques to broaden the curriculum and provide more effectively for individual student needs and abilities, without a major increase in nonnal operating costs. Among the approaches being studied are: Multiple class teaching - the instruction of two or more classes within one classroom at the same time: small group techniques - the division of students into smaller groups within one class: supervised correspondence coursesg and the use of community resources. Kremmling teachers taking part in the program this year were Mr. Chesher, Miss Head, and Mrs. shoffner.
