Sutherland PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE The tempo of life for everyone in our country is growing year by year. There was a time when to live in a supposedly isolated place such as our Kona District was to forego the opportunities for an active life. It is no longer true, however. This issue of our Ka Wena O Kona is a partial record of the active life of high school students in Kona. Such activity' has a great deal of good edu- cational potential for our young people, waiting only to be wisely selected and used. The entire staff of Konawaena bend our efforts toward help- ing students in the wise selection and proper use of these activity opportunities knowing that, ed- ucationally, they are second only in value to the basic classwork of our formal educational pro- gram. A democracy expects community leadership and active participation of its citizens. Our youth in school have real opportunity to develop both the understandings and the skills involved.
