Although the Konawaena sextette lacked in height, they were too fast for the visiting Honokaa team and were victorious in a 38w8 score. With such fast and sharp shooters as T. Sasaki, K. Hiraoka, B. Yates, M. Hoomanawanui and with the fine de- fensive game played by A. Gaa, K. Minamoto, A. Tanabe, an impressive showing was made by leading every quarter of the game. JANUARY 22 SCORE 20-10 The Konaites after several unsuccessful years defeated the powerful Kohala team on January 22, at the home court. After much excitement in the first half, the game finally ended 20 to 10 in favor of the Konas. Those who played heads-up were T. Sasaki, B. Yates, K. Hiraoka, K. Mi- namoto, A. Gaa, A. Tanabe, and S. Taketa. JANUARY 23 SCORE 29-24 After a hot and exciting game played against the powerful Vikingettes' at Kona on January 23, the Wildcats came out victorious with a close score of 29-24. E m ma Denis When the call for the girls' basketball team was announced all the en- thusiastic prospects turned out for extensive training. They practiced every afternoon to make all possible improvements. Under the supervision of Coach A. C. Young the Konawaena girls' 'team has experienced one of the most successful years in the history of the Konawaena High School by winning the Big Island Inter-scholastic championship. They were the undefeated champs, walking off with the beautiful trophy. A large credit goes to the girls for the super-sportsmanship they show- ed and also a great deal of credit goes to Mr. Young who has put forth all his efforts to improve the team. 1903

By defeating the Honokaa sextette 32 to 6 on February 5 at the Ho- nokaa outdoor court, the fourth victory was gained. The Green and Whites led by K. Hiraoka, S. Sasaki and B. Yates who garnered 15, 13 and 4 points respectively took a 15 to 4 lead at the end of the lirst half and with a lead of 17 to 2 at the end of the second half. Those who played a fine game for the defensive were K. Minamoto, A. Gaa, S. Taketa and A. Tanabe. FEBRUARY 6 SCORE 33-21 At the Hilo Armory on February 6, the Konawaena girls' team invad- ed the Hilo Vikingettes with a 33-21 victory. The Wildcats were able to lead throughout the game holding the opponents scoreless in the first quarter. i FEBRUARY 11 SCORE 22-21 When the Konawaena sextette met the powerful Kohala on February 11, they played a heart breaking game. Although the girls played their very best Kohala emerged victorious by a close margin of 22-421. MARCH 3 SCORE 42-23 In spite of the previous defeat, the Wildcat team thrashed the power- ful Kohala girls' team 42-23 on March 3 at Kona and received the B. I. F. title. With fast passing and sharp shooting the Wildcats took the lead from the start. T. Sasaki, K. Hiraoka, and B. Yates scored 21, 19, and 2 points respectively. On the defense, K. Minamoto, A. Gaa, and A. Tanabe starred for Konawaena. 4925
