Jan. 22 Wildcats-55 Kohalas-35 Playing an inspiring ball game, the Wildcats threshed the powerful cowboys of Kohala to the tune of 55-35 on the Kona fioor. Both teams fought very closely and played a head up game. This victory added another step towards the championship cup. Jan. 29 Wildcats-44 Spartans--36 The Wildcat five, flashing well-groomed offensive work in the criti- -cal moments, drowned the fighting Hilo Intermediate's Spartan, 44-36, in an afternoon game. Both teams performed fine defensive and offensive work throughout the entire game but the Spartans were over-powered by the Wildcats in a man to man defense. This marked the third victory for the Wildcats. Feb. 5 Wildcats-15 Honokaas-20 In the return game on Feb. 5, the snarling Wildcats' winning streak was stopped by the Dragons of Honokaa in the latter's out-of-door court. This game marked the first set-back in the Junskol race for the Wildcats. The score was 20-15. Feb. 11 Wildcats-42 Kohalas-41 With the defeat by the Honokaas still on their mind, the revived Wild- cats invaded the Kohala campus on Friday, Feb. 11 for a return match. The Konaites, fighting hard from the opening whistle, were given the worst scare .of their lives when the Cowboys almost lassoed the Wildcats. The final score stood 42 to 41 in Kona's favor. This game marked the 4th victory in the junskol conipetition and also enabled the Wildcats to represent West Hawaii in the annual inter-island basketball tournament in Honolulu. . Feb. 20 Wildcats-31 Spartans-36 The last game of the Junior Inter-scholastic League was played against the Hilo Intermediates at Hilo to decide the championship. The Wildcats, being exhausted after the heated game of the previous night, were unable to perform their very best, thus losing the Big Island Junior Inter-scho- lastic League championship. 4379

Young When the first call for boys' basketball practice was announced on the bulletin board by Coach Young, numerous prospects and all the regulars responded. With such a large number turning out, it was difficult for the coach to shape up a good team. Yet with his whole interest on the team he com- pleted another successful year for Konawaena High School. BIG ISLAND JUNIOR INTER-SCHOLASTIC LEAGUE Jan. 15. Wildcats-39 Honokaas-15 With the intention of defending their Junior Interscholastic Basket-I ball title, the Wildcat Quintet opened its first game of the league by defeat- ing the Honokaa Dragons 39 to 15, before a large enthusiastic crowd at- the school gym. The Konaites made an impressive showing throughout the game to- earn a clean victory. i362
