Since then many chapters have been organized in various districts in the territory so that at present there are nearly 40 chapters. There are two types of Smith-Hughes vocational agricultural classes in the territory. Under type A class, the boys spend about 2 days a week working in the Held and the rest of the week in the classroom. Their field work consists largely of contract work with sugar or pineapple plantations. In addition to field work, the boys carry on one or two home projects such as poultry. swine, vegetable garden, t1'opical fruits. etc. Under type B fsuch as the set up we have in this schoolb, the boys do not do any field work but carry on one or two home projects. They spend 90 minutes daily for instruction in various agricultural enterprises. Many of our local district' boys have made good showings in F.F.A. work. Konawaena boasts of the largest number of Hawaii Planter degree recipients, including Masayuki Nagai, Yasuki Nakagawa, Kumakichi Higa- shihara, Yoshio Ito, Itsuo Shibuya, Yoshiichi Ujimori, Masao Ikeda, Ta- dao Igeta, Haruo Yamamoto, Masao Hada, and Kongo Kimura. Masayuki Nagai had gone further to earn himself an American Farmer degree. Yasuki Nakagawa is trying for a similar degree this year. Both Masayuki and Yasuki have had the honor of attending the F.F.A. National Conven- tion in Kansas City. Their expenses, of course, were covered by the Ter- ritorial Organization. 183i
