Present Konawaena - Office Building constant improvements, the Ka Wena O Kona was awarded the Medalist award last year by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The first school paper was put out in 1925, called the Koniwaena News. Though the name is changed, a weekly school paper is published which is mimeograph- ed by the students. The Associated Students of Konawaena High School was first organiz- ed in 1925, and is still carried on to this day. This serves as an experience of self-government for the students and betters the understanding between students and teachers. Its purpose is to help students to become more worth while, to act for the good of others, and to acquire the habits of self-dependence. The cabinet, which is similar to the student council in some schools, consists of the principal, athletic coach, senate adviser, student body pre- sident, and secretary. This organization serves as an executive board for the Associated Students of Konawaena High School Association to ap- point members of the C.P.O. department from a list recommended by the senate, to take up matters of immediate importance concerning student dis- cipline and to maintain regulation in the school. Other organizations in our school are Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of Hawaii, Girl Reserves and Hi-Y. These' clubs stress moral conduct and develop better homemakers and farmers. It also promotes better friendship among girls and boys. Although the P.T.A. is an outside organization, it has done many things to improve conditions in our school. In 1930, a course in orchestra was offered, and now there are more than 75 pupils enrolled in it. To finance this class the school sponsors an operetta every year, which is also put on by the school children. f19l
