Page 28 The library supplied an abundance of material for the students. Librar - Silence Please! Our school library might well be called the service centerl' of the school. lt is used constantly by students in search of material for book reports, class reports, and various references. This year a new system was initiated whereby the library went to the classroom instead of vice-versa. The mobile book units were very con- venient, especially for use in the vocational building. In gathering other information, we find that our library contains approximately 8,500 books and subscribes to 75 magazines and 2 news- papers. Another pleasant addition to the library this year was the mint green venetian blinds, which gave the room a tranquil atmosphere. Mrs. Ruth Gosma is our school librarian, assisted by a competent staff of students.

jack Longfellow shows the class that Latin inscriptions are found everywhere from hand h its to the dollar bills held by Marilyn Clark and Barbara Simpson. Language - 'Tiat Luxlw Hllritannia est insula. Europa non est insulaf, So starts the first Latin lesson. From these first simple sentences and the unforgettable 'tte amol' to conversational l.atin and the study of Caesar's Gallic VVar goes the course of study in Miss Helen Railsbacles Latin classes. Other students are gaining a knowledge of Spanish and 'French under the guidance of Bliss Ruth Campbell and Mr. Urban Steckler. The Romance languages may not seem very romantic to the pupils struggling through the intricacies of verb conjugations, but there is a real thrill in being able to translate smoothly a story written in a foreign language. Besides being helpful in later life, the study of any foreign tongue in an informing as well as an interesting way to learn the history of the country and the customs of the people. Valeo! Page 29
