46 Kofans Spend the summer awag from home learning GI RLS' AND BOYS' STATE Early last spring the teachers at Kofa nominated and eleC'f9d four girls and five boys all of whom were outstanding in aca- demics, personality and leader- ship. These students represented Kofa at the American Legion Auxiliaries Girls' and Boys' State, a mythical 51st state. Girls' State was held on the U of A campus in Tucson, w h i le the Boys' Staters gathered at NAU in Flag- staff. Using Arizona laws as guidelines, the delegates set up mock city, county and state governments. While campaigning for offices, making up spirit songs a n d listening to guest speakers, the delegates made many friends. The alternates chosen were: Melody A m b ur, Korlis Hack- barth, Marilyn Morgan, Becky Watson, Clifford Cameron, Rick Crosby, Danny E l k i ns, John Hamilton, and Steve Schacterle. ANYTOWN Anytown was a gathering of every religion, race and color living together in the Prescott Mountains for one week, with no problems. The kids represented their viewpoints in discussion groups and other activities. They grew emotionally w i t h new knowledge of different religions and races while gaining many new friends. The motto for this dream world was . . Each man as my brother, Each man as my friend. To attend Anytown, one must submit a letter to student council and be interviewed by members of council. Two kids from the lUf1i0r a n d senior classes are chosen to represent Kofa. Kids returning from Anytown h Hood feeling, one of understand- Ing better the human race and its beliefs.
