Joe Floyd came to Kodiak in the fall of 1955 as basketball coach, PE and social studies teacher. I-le coached JV and Varsity basket- ball at KHS for 8 years. Over the years he has coached cross coun- try, track and wrestling, developed an intraramural program in Jr. high and high school, directed an evening recreation program which ran 5 nights a week, set up the city basketball league, directed a summer recreation program for elementary and high school age students for four summers and was instrumental in the implement- ation of physical education program in elementary and junior high school. His great love is athletics and his special dedication is in helping each student grow to his fullest potential through character- building attitudes developed in physical education. The staff of the '72-'73 Channel Light is dedicating this yearbook to coach to express our sincere appreciation for all that he has done for the Kodiak sports program and for the school these past eighteen years. . Coach Floyd also held the position of Commander for Besides all his school activities, Coach also enjoys hunting, fishing, and hiking during the summer. Coach Floyd played college Football for two years at Delta State in Southern Mississippi. the National Guard Unit here in Kodiak in 1958. 5
