Here within the boundries of the old stone wall and the ball field exists a world all its own-- a world dominated by rings of laughter, merriment, hard work, A occasional tears, and . .. yes, memories. I know this world--every stone and crack, every hall and desk, every voice and face--' for I have been here a long time. I have seen you come and go, I was here when the first foundation was laidg I saw every stone and board placedg I saw every addition throughout the yearsg but far greater than these I have seen the minds and faces of people-- the people who created and sustained me. I am a capable guide--one who can show you below the surface of this one year of history. I am the spirit. . .the SPIRIT of Kodiak High. PRESENTATION PA GE INTRODU CT ION PA GE 7 DEDICATION PAGE . X, Q fx A X Joe Floyd came to Kodiak in the fall of 1955 as basketball coach, PE and social studies teacher. I-le coached JV and Varsity basket- ball at KHS for 8 years. His great love is athletics and his special dedication is in helping each student grow to his fullest potential through character- building attitudes developed in physical education. The staff of the '72-'73 Channel Light is dedicating this yearbook to coach to express our sincere appreciation for all that he has done for the Kodiak sports program and for the school these past eighteen years. . Coach Floyd also held the position of Commander for Besides all his school activities, Coach also enjoys hunting, fishing, and hiking during the summer. Coach Floyd played college Football for two years at Delta State in Southern Mississippi. the National Guard Unit here in Kodiak in 1958. 5 Q A3 Il , 'J' U 5.1 F? .. Cross Country CROSS COUNTRY TEAM CO-CHAMPIONS On Thursday, October 6th, the Kodiak cross country squad departed for Palmer where the state meet was to be held on the following day. The squad consisted of returning lettermen Carroll Pope, Velton Phillips and Dan Watkins out last year for elgibility reasons, and strong contender Brad Madjic, Gus Morton, Duncan Fields, and John Hartman. Coach Marvin Frost and Athletic Director Joe Floyd accompanied the team. When the team arrived in Palmer the same usual weather faced them that has for some time-mixed rain and snow. The next day the weather was the same but the race had to go on. However, weather never dampened the spirit harriers and at the end of the 2 118 mile race Qrun in a golf course near Palmerj they had tied Palmer for the Championship with four runners in the top ten. 120 Kodiak's runners finished as follows: Dan Watkins 3rd, Carroll Pope 4th, Velton Phillips 7thg Brad Madjic 9thg Gus Morton 23rdg Duncan Fields and john Hartman followed. As champions the 7-man squad is elgible for white sweaters, the highest distinction of a champion ! All in all, Coach Marvin Frost, along with the students and faculty of K. H. S. , was satisfied with the outcome of the cross country season. Everyone worked hard and stuck it out. That's what it takes to be champions. Other members of the cross country team that did not make state but de- serve recognition are Gary Boskofsl-cy, Joe Dinnocenzo, James Gregory, Charlie Reed, john Fontaine, Tom Dinnocenzo, and Don Valen. Congratulations again to the champion K. H. S. Cross Country team! Let's have another one next year!
