DECK DEPARTMENT FIRST SECOND DIVISION The First and Second Divisions of the Gunnery Department are the Deck Divisions. They are the topside sailors of the klondike. Among the numerous tasks assigned these divisions are the operation and maintenance of the ship ' s boats, booms, accommodation ladders, anchoring, mooring and towing gear. the deck divisions also have the responsibility for the preservation and appearance of the exterior surfaces of the ship. the canvas shop or sail locker accomplishes any and all types of canvas and upholstering jobs . the rigging teams and spray paint teams provide gr eat assi stance to various departments in klon- dike and ships alongside. the days are long for the topside sailors and some of the jobs are tough , but they are happy in the knowledge that their efforts are in a large part responsible for keeping klondike the best.
