HERO sponsors. The 75 members of the organization were required to take a short test, learn the club creed, and pay a small due to join the club. Testing members and requiring the creed to be memorized was something new tried to cut down on inactive members, commented Janet Brumley, co-sponsor. FHA! HERO proved to be an ex- tremely active club with fund raisers, special activities and competition. The fund raisers were, selling candy and then Christmas cookies. Proficiency events and FHA activities week, February 6-10, were two activities that in which the members enjoyed participating. As for competition the members could enter under three events, manual! chapter display, illustrated talk and job in- terview I application. District com- petition took place at Klein High School on November 16, the area competition in the Houston Hyatt Regency, February 10 and 11, and state competition in San Antonio, April 12-13. The members and sponsors, Brumley, Bell, Susan Dorsey and Peggy Dewhurst, met in the home economics living room the third Tuesday of every month to plan the next month's activities. 1331 ORGANIZATIONS 253
