CROSS+COU TRY Under the coaching expertise of Coach George Whitaker and Assistant Coach David Stern, the boys' and girls' cross-country teams experienced their second successful year in a row. The boys' team won their second consecutive district championship and qualified for the regionals, finishing sixth out of 16 other teams. The girls varsity ended up in third overall along with the junior varsity team. Among the very few weaknesses was the lack of depth on sub-varsity teams, according to the coaches. Seniors Mike Pomes and Ben Dalton were vital assets to the team and played a very bilgl role in the boys' team's success, Coac Whitaker stated. 117 Ben Dalton sets an easy pace as he heads forthe finish'line. Q21 Seniors Billy Esposito and Ben Dalton alonglwith Principal Vemon Smith, admire the trophy t ey heaped win at district. Q37 Seniors Wade aver and eter Zimmel take a breather after a hard race. Q41 Cross-country team members are, to row, Coach David Stern, Wade Brewer, Mike Fumes, Peter Zimmel, Danny Hess, Ben Dalton, Eric Moquin, David Napollilo and Head Coach George Whitaker. BUYS GIRLS All three boys' track divisions pulled off a clean sweep, with the freshman, junior varsity and the varsity squads winning district crowns. For the varsity, this was the second year in a row they have performed that feat. The varsity thinclads sent nine individuals to the regional meet in Mesquite, where Mike Pomes took a third in the 3200 meters, Todd Sigaty grabbed fifth in the 800 and Rawle Turner garnered a fifth in the high hurdles. Coach lack Sands' tracksters were also in the thick of things in state rankings. Pomes' time in the 3200 was good enough to rank him seventh in Texas, while Sigaty's mark in the 800 meters kept him in a lofty second-place perch for the early portion of the season. The two-mile relay team also placed in the Texas Top Ten . Pomes was named Most Valuable track performer, building up the highest point total in KF track history. The Heart Award, given to an individual who gave extra effort in track and field, went to Ben Dalton. 204 SPORTS ill Varsity track team members are, sitting, Marc Smith, Wade Brewer, Billy Esposito and Gerald Glenn. Kneeling are Coach Guy Dillon, Kenneth Ware, Cam Barnes, Ieff Fanaff, Derek Sisson, Dent Armer, Ben Dalton, Todd Sigaty, Matt Kowalski, Mike Pomes and Coach Jack Sands. Standing are Coach Gary Pell, Chuck Compton, Duke Selley, Peter Zimmel, Dan Hess, Iudson Belton, Chris Young, David Tennison, Rawle Turner, Kevin Beasley and Coach Wes Hubert. 121 Ken Ware flings the discus during practice. C33 junior varsity track team members are, front row, Rob Englehardt, David Walker, Iason Marshall, Doug Wendler, Matt Haight, David Napolille, Scott Parrish, Ray Follis, Eric Goodwine and Steve Pemberton. In the second row are Coach Guy Dillon, Chris Armstrong, 'fCharlie Hagenorn, Anthony McBride, Scott Dalton, Iudson Belton, Collins Gore, Bill Deen, Mike Wichterich, Ieft'Cooksey and Steve Edwards.
