'Q' C671 High standards have been set by the 1983-84 girls' soccer team who made this year its best by, along with the boys' team reaching the state playoffs for the first time. Coached by Vanessa Young, 17-2 the girls ended district play, against Westfield, remaining undefeated in loop play. Sophomore Nancy Gold described the match against Westfield. It was one of the best matches the team ever played. We ended up winning 4-2 , she exclaimed. After winning district, the girls went on to defeat Stratford and Clear Lake to win the Region II playoffs. Iunior co-captain Heather Study played right halfback for the varsity team this year and remembers the season. The most memorable part of the season was when we won the regional championship and knew we were going to state. In Austin the girls were matched against Dallas Kimball in the quarterfinals. After a rough match, the girls were defeated 4-0. After state, the list of accomplishments continued to grow when the All-District list was announced. Sophomore Nancy Gold with 49 goals, her sister freshman Liz Gold with 46 goals, and Katherine Cobert were selected for the first team. Nancy was also chosen as the Most Valuable Offensive Player in the district. Gold reflected on the past year. With the returning players and this year's new players, it combined well not only on the field, but off the field as well, she explained. Q13 Girls varsity soccer team members are, front row, Monica Miller, Julia Trainor, Allison Marant, Cindy Shafer, Andrea Barnes and Iennifer Kowalski. Middle row, LeAnne Davis, Nancy Gold, Melissa Miller, Ginger Kistler, Heather Study, Liz Gold and Susan Jones.
