Tangen Commander Carrier Group SEVEN. homeported at Naval Air Station North Island, California, is under the adminis- trative command of Commander Naval Air Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet, and is under the operational command of designated fleet and task force commanders of the U. S. Pacific Fleet. The mission of Carrier Group SEVEN is administrative command of ships as- signed to it, operational command of ships and units assigned by higher au- thority, and assistance to Commander Naval Air Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet, in the administration of Pacific naval air force units temporarily assigned to it for oper- ational purposes. Carrier Group SEVEN is currently assigned administrative command of USS RANGER QCV-615 and USS KITTFN H.-XIYK ICV-o3l. Commissioned on March 22, 1956, at Naval Air Station, Alameda, California, as Carrier Division SEVEN, the com- mand made its maiden voyage to the Wfestern Pacific aboard USS BON HQNIME RICHARD in 1957. Carrier Group SEVEN has been commanded by twenty-six Rear Admirals and two Cap- tains. During that time, the command has completed twenty-six deployments to the Western Pacific embarked in six- teen aircraft carriers including KEAR- SARGE, HANCOCK, SHANGRI-LA, LEXINGTON, RANGER, TICONDER- OGA, ORISKANY, KITTY HAWK, CONSTELLATION, MIDWAY, CCR- AL SEA, SARATOGA, AMERICA, EN- TERPRISE, and NIMITZ.

He is a graduate of the U. 5. Naval Academy Class of 1957 and was designated a naval aviator in 1959.
