With the ever increas- ing swiftness of travel the size of our globe seems to be shrinking. Therefore, a knowledge of the lan- guages of the people only a few hours distance from us is a necessity for gaining world-wide understand- ing. By studying the language of another area of the world, the student gains not only a knowledge of that language, but also an understanding of the people, customs, and traditions which comprise that culture.
