Judy l:rost TUE BATTLE OF TIIE V IN D S Have you ever wondered what started the first hurricanes and tornados? You haven’t? Well, I'll tell you. This story was told to me l»v a descendant of Nosov, who was the king of a particular tribe of dinosaurs. It seemed that Jupiter was very angry, and he had a very good reason to be. All of the dinosaurs, except those of Nosey’s tribe, were running his estate. There were great holes, and the bushes and trees had been up-rooted. It was terrible, and Jupiter felt that he had to get revenge. He thought and thought and thought. He finally remembered that the gods of the winds were quarreling and he sent a nasty note to the North wind, the South wind, and the East and West winds. The notes were very insulting, and each wind challenged the other to come out in open battle at the same place at the same time. Now. Nosev knew that Jupiter would do something soon, and he didn't want any part of it. since his tribe hadn't done anything. I le led them to a green spot on an unknown island on tin- very Southern tip of the earth. When the four winds met at the appointed spot, thev were furious at each other and they blew and blew and blew. Somehow they ended up blowing in the same direction, and they blew so hard and at such a terrible speed that the water of the sea made a very heavy rain. Between the wind and the rain, trees and everything within their reach were des- troyed. Never since in our historv has a dinosaur been seen except lor the one who told me this storv. and we still have the hurricanes and tornados that are started bv the winds when they are angrv. The only reason that I know this is because Nosev stood at the entrance to the green spot at the unknown island at the Southern tip of the Earth and watched the great battle. . . . Ann Hammonds

Besides being wild, besides being free, splitting and spitting and roaring and pouring and snapping and crackling and breaking and shaking and dancing, entrancing, and darting and parting and working and jerking anti glittering and frittering and burning and spurning. Just think, mv good fiends. What fire can do. And put all your fires out when you’re through. . . . Vieky Sunnelcy Rainbow caiulybari
