Each ingredient in cooking has its distinct importance and adds a special contribution toward forrninw a connoisseur's delight. Comparably, every person who has ever been a part of our D school whether in the capacity of student or teacher, has added an irreplaceable something to the constituent parts of our high school. Each of the members of Kingston High School due to his t 'b tion is an indispensable part of our school community. While being small but necessary con ri u Q ., . i , K ' , .sl 1,1 educated here both physically and mentally, he has unknou mgly added spice to our sc 100 11111 school life. Futherinore, the many opposing parts of his personality have congealed to form an individual capable of performing the arduous tasks demanded by today's society. Then, if the product is thoroughly liked and enjoyed, the consumer will come back for more With hopes of obtaining the same quality again. So it is with a high school graduate. Very often what they are expected to be capable of giving or doing is judged by the quality of individuals which have preceded them down the road of endeavor. Since this is so, we must consider what has come before us. We look into the world which we are about to face and see the men and women who left K. H. S. before us already making their marks in it.. hloreover, we realize that most of them have jumped the first and most difficult hurdle leading to successg what they have to offer has been sampled, and it has been well liked. Therefore, we of the present graduating class and those of classes to follow must be ready to meet the high standards which our alumni have already estab- lished. Furthermore, We must give them thanks for so firmly upholding the honor and dignity of our school and the graduates of it. Because they have established a good reputation their consumers, the businessmen and Women of the World We are about to enter, will return to us, the unsold products, expecting to again receive goods of high-grade quality. Because of their examples of what a Kingston High School graduate is expected to be, it is to the past graduates of our esteemed high school that we, the class of ,58, dedicate our yearbook. 3 1 , I 3 4' rg .. uf , 'P' ,N Alma Mater Youth is ever free and sparkling, Future views Cannot be dreary. Kennedy has decided to retire from School Baum' The year 1957 was the centennial anniversary of the Kingston Bor- ough School Board. As the type of government. in our community changed from township to borough in December 1857, a School Board was elected under the laws dealing with school management. Down through the ages the men on the School Board have been the guiding light for this school district. The members of the present School Board must concern themselves with a great variety of tasks. They must take their places on a few of eight various committees. Living proof of their constant endeavors to better our school surround- ings is the handsome new stadium which was formally dedicated dur- ing this year. .MMM i f-I ' ' 2 ' '-1, rv' W' 'ham 4 active participation in the educational field ,ei DR. The first step is the gath- ering together of the ingredients, and thus, our class assembled for the first time in 1953 as Prepsmen. Each person became an ingredient which contributed to the success of the product- the class of 1958. To demonstrate our unity asa class, we began working toward our trip to lYashington by selling Christmas candy. The thought of the trip served as an impetus for add- ing to our treasury which had to be full before the buses could leave for lYashington. Because of its need for money the class added Havoring and seasoning to the school year by holding a successful Christmas dance. As Easter approached, another substantial addition was made to the treasury by our selling candy. The next step in the recipe is the mixing and blending of the ingredients. As we assumed our position as Freshmen, the many individuals who were a part of our class began to con- geal into one unit-a class of Kingston High School. Our hun- gry treasury cried for more money. Once again we answered its call and began to sell magazines. This was to be our last selling campaign for after this the school banking program replaced the door-to-door selling. At this point a cake may be considered half finished: in the same manner, our class had now reached the halfway mark in high school. All the separate ingredients by now are in the pan and have begun to assume the shape of the desired pro- duct. Likewise, we had become thoroughly united and were beginning to look more and more like a graduating class. This was acknowledged by all the upperclassmen who at- tended our Sophomore sport dance. It was unique in that. free records were given as door prizes. As the tantalizing odors of the nearly completed cake dif- fuse through a house and make the thought of eating the cake unbearable t.o someone endowed with a small amount of patience, thus was the anticipation in our Junior year of zk or what was soon to be ours as Seniors. To prove to the school that even as Juniors we were worthy of attention, we presented the Junior Play. It was entitled The Divine Flora and the budding actors merited bouquet after bouquet for their suc- cessful performances. This play coupled with our few sport dances was a prelude to the big social event of the year, the Junior Prom in honor of the Seniors. Here, while dancing to the theme of A Rhapsody in Bluef' our class momentar- ily emerged from the oven to give outsiders their first real hint of what the finished product. would look like. In our Senior Year the cake emerged from the oven and only lacked decorations for its completion. These decorations were supplied in the form of regular sport dances. The Sen- ior Play of Seventeenth Summer showed that our class was a fully decorated product. Both the Christmas and Eas- ter Proms served to improve the spirit of the class and they put forth a standard of achievement which might serve as a standard for future classes. The end of our best Year came too quickly and the Washington trip, object of so much anticipa- tion and dreaming, seemed too wonderful to be real. Finally we graduated and, as the cakes from a store go to many dif- ferent houses. we set out from the classrooms of K. H. S. to be tested and graded by the world. Any chef will readily admit that he alone is not responsible for the success of his baked goods. The same is true of the Senior Class with regard to their high school days. llany peo- ple other than Seniors contribute ingredients or blend them. We should like to thank our parents, teachers, advisors, and friends for Contributing their time and talents to our class. lYithout thein the recipe for our class could only have pro- duced a small and tasteless cake. Their help has made us con- fident that the wares which are offered by the class of 1958 will be in demand. It is our sincere hope that the energy which was expended in shaping us will be justified tenfold by our achievements. IS T 001 iff., Elaine Yudkovitz Tamara Kiyml Barbara Gutowski Copy Editor .lrl Eflifor Tyiffflg Edlimf Here we pause to give recognition to the kneaders and bakers of this fine book. Vivere it not for the consistent batter which they have so amicably produced, this book could not have been produced. lNTemories of the hours and the days spent pouring over the then incongruent segments of the Kingston High School Yearbook will indelibly be imprinted on the minds of many of the people whose pictures enhance these two pages. They will smilingly recall late hours and early morning sessions at headquarters other than our dear high school. Fondly will they think of frantic rushes to meet alarmingly close deadlinesg perhaps they'll always wonder at how they ever met them at all. However, now that the finished product is fully in evidence they can breathe a little easier knowing that all was not in vain. There were other frenzied moments in the life of the 1958 Yearbook Staff. Outstanding is their harrowing debut as actors. On February 7 they attempted to convey their message to the student body. Much to their surprise the performance proved quite entertaining and rather amusing. Other events are inscribed annals of our yearbook. Some are the kind better forgotten but others, most of them at that, are the kind to be savored for a long time to come. The picnic had when all the Work was finally done, the banquet where tangible recognition was awarded the deserving-these and many other incidents involved in the production of this yearbook will remain inextinguishable memories in the minds and hearts of the Yearbook Staff of 1958. 55 f i P k S HLY HI-Y OFFICERS-Roll' 1: F. Wve should like to honor them this year because of their outstanding contributions to community life within Kingston and Kingston High School. Under the expert guidance of Mr. Donald Hilbert, its members perform innumerable serv- ices which are beneficial to many people. Klr. Hilbert defines the main purpose of his organization as such: To create, maintain, and extend high standards of Christian behavior throughout school and community. Hi-Y instills in its members one of the most valuable of all life's ingredients, serv- ice to others. Perhaps the best known of its yearly projects and the one that most necessitates the use of the full force of its membership is the preparation and distribution of Christmas baskets to the needy of Kingston. Through this annual endeavor the boys ignite within the community the Christmas feeling of good will toward all men. This year the Hi-Y embarked upon a special project. They set for themselves the goal of pur- chasing for Nesbitt Hospital special equipment to be used in premature baby care. The attainment. of this goal was another feather in their cap. Bloreover, as recognition of outstanding athletic achievement within their own school community, the Hi-Y members voted to award varsity blankets to the person who contributes the most of his particular sport in each season. Iyireetor of Athletics 82 ...............v.w.... . :-: ....m..,.a. -. 'F ...F r-u-g- 20 1 29 it ..' 3 '38 21 -JL '49 425 The 1957 football season initiated the long-awaited Kingston stadium which had been a decade in the planning. In the dedication game with Hanover a story book opening took place when Rutkowski received a punt and raced 85 yards to score. After this beginning. Hanover never had a chance to launch an attack and the Huskies piled up a 19-6 score. After decisive wins over Newport. and Luzerne, Kingston experienced a midseason lethargy as is shown by the scant margins by which Plymouth and Swoyerville managed to defeat them. This mood ended with a smashing triumph over 1Ieyers. This victory plus the three succeeding ones over G.A.R., Nanticoke, and Plains reestablished Kingston as a major football contender. All hopes for a championship centered on the Thanksgiving Day tilt with Coughlin. On the cold, brisk game day 12,000 fans jammed Meyers stadium and saw the Hus- kies battle to a scoreless tie. Although Kingston had led in every game statistic ex- cept scoring, the championship had to be awarded to Coughlin on the basis of com- plete season play. After the termination of the regular season, four Kingston grid stars were hon- ored by being selected to the 1Yyoming Valley All-Scholastic team. They were Ed Rutkowski, Joe Zolner, Frank Sorochak, and Tony Turel, Their selection marked a high point in their football careers and was a fitting climax to the '57 season. I rr... w ' 46-, ' 5 -sw-4.321 WU 'fW layers attempt to drive the puck through the opponents lines. This year marked the second season of official com- petition for the girls' hockey team. Since hockey is such a new competitive sport at Kingston High School, the team lacks the experience of the others in their league. This they seek to supplement by their sportsmanship and spirit. Their every moment on the Held found them playing at their peak. They never conceded defeat, des- pite the score. The team played six games in allAwinning three, losing two, and tying one. The valuable coaching of Mrs. Weiss was greatly responsible for the team's note- worthy season. Also, the members, themselves, must also he given credit for their long weeks of arduous work.
