MISS CARRIE BROWN Mr. S. Edward McConnell came to Kingston High School in l93l. Those of us who knew him will always remember him as a gentleman of integrity, for he was always courteous and considerate, and he was always true to his own ideals as well as to the ideals of Kingston High School. Mr. McConnell was graduated from Mt. Union College, Alliance, Ohio. He did post-graduate work with Penn State University, the University of Pennsylvania and Susquehanna University. Before coming to Kingston, he taught in the high schools in West Springfield, Massachusetts and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and at the Wilkes-Barre Business College. Mr. McConnell was always ready to help his pupils. His in- terest in them went far beyond the classroom. He aided in placing many boys and girls in good positions. Kingston High School was indeed fortunate in having a man of his fine qualities as one of its commercial teachers. MRS. WILLIAM PIERCE il'?'?i iE31alf' eibecbca fion Of Miss Carrie Brown's 32 years of teaching in Kingston High School, our class was privileged to know her for only two years for Miss Brown retired in February, 1951. Although only a few of us came directly under her supervision, we all realized that she possessed qualities that are most admirable in a teacher-refinement, patience, a pleasing personality and ability as a teacher in her particular field. After graduating from Stroudsburg State Teachers College and teaching for two years in Idetown and eight years in the Kingston grade schools, Miss Brown came to the commercial department of Kingston High School. Here she taught several of the commercial subjects always having the success of her students in mind for her recommendations to business firms have brought successful careers to many of our graduates. Miss Brown's talents are many and she has given freely of her dramatic ability to Kingston High School while with us and to the Methodist Church where she is still very active in many types of church work. Always ready to promote the welfare of students and friends, her acts of kindness and generosity have been unknown to many and we are sure that Kingston High School has been the richer for hav- ing had Miss Brown as a teacher and a friend. MR. S. EDWARD MCCONNELL Mrs. William Pierce, known to us as Miss Enid Sweet, was until two years ago one of our most beloved teachers. When she left us to become Mrs. Pierce, our school suffered a distinct loss. During her years of teaching in Kingston High School, Miss Sweet taught at various times, Pennsylvania History, Public Speak- ing, four years of Latin and was for several years the Director of Activities. Although Miss Sweet was most capable in all these fields, her real interest was in the teaching of Latin. Through her inspired teaching, Ancient Rome became real and living. We students of recent years remember Miss Sweet in Room lO5, but former students will recall her in room 109 or lll. Both her homeroom and classroom students always felt her warm, friendly interest, and they knew they could turn to her for advice. We all wish for Mrs. Pierce the happiness which she gave to so many of us. 2

0l 6lfU0l We, the yearbook staff of this, the 1953 Kingstonian annual wish you, our critics to read our manuscript. It is the story of our four years in Kingston High School. We have chosen to present this story in the form of a motion picture, entitled Four Years in the Greatest Theater on Earth . Our best efforts have gone into this project in order that instead of its becoming a chronological list of facts, dates, and figures, it might be an interesting and real-life tale of the way that this institu- tion has helped us to progress from childhood to adulthood and how in doing so it has taught us the cherished and never to be forgotten meanings of such qualities as scholarship, leadership, integrity, responsibility, and many others, which are far too numerous to mention here. We hope that one day we may be able to read this book and to look back on these four years to recall memories of some of the happiest moments of our lives. That is perhaps our foremost pur- pose of this publication, but we also wish others to enjoy our experiences by seeing and reading about them as they have happened to us. The curtain rises, the lights are dimmed, and the picture has begun. With this premier per- formance go our great desires that you will enjoy yourself and our showing. I L11 - II! ZW

Youth is ever free and sparkling, Bright and always glad: Never seeing shadows darkening, Bearing omens sad. Future views cannot be dreary, Spectres grim and dire, Youth is blithsome, never weary, Hearts of youth afire. We shall then in years hereafter, From high school long gone. Hear the cheerfulness and laughter, As we sit alone, Thinking over youthful pleasures, Youthful conquests won, Memories to each a treasure, Days in old Kingston. H 1 L gl A g ,.,,,...w-av-my
