Strong bodies and strong minds go hand in hand. John F. Kennedy once stated, The need for in- creased attention to physical fitness is clearly estab- lished. The Government cannot compel us to act, but freedom demands it. A nation is merely the sum of all its citizens and its strength, energy, and resourcefulness can be no greater than theirs. In the present school curriculum, physical education plays an important role in a student's general school- ing. Physical education is designed to provide each with an orderly program of exercise, necessary to develop the body and stimulate the mind. Made possible by the expansive new gymnasium, the net result is the growth of a healthy individual. The physical education program inspires students to de- velop abilities, solve various physical deficiencies, and encourages participation in avariety of activities.

Making paper mache in preparation for the Christmas project. Art department is valuable addition to school. To create is to experience the immeasurable thrill of bringing into being some tangible ob- ject often with symbolic properties. An unwieldly log transformed into a sleek figure of beauty: a pile of newspapers becomes a manger scene: a sheet of paper to a vivid scene of harmony in depth and tone. Art is a skill which demands sensitivity of hands and spirit. The artist puts himself into his work and therefore his feelings may be interpreted by the keen observer. Pa- tience is necessary to shape the lines of the most difficult of subjects---the human face. Recog- nizing the character behind the face and portray- ing it as such brings life into the work. A sweep of the brush can cause shadows of gloom or create the glorious dawn of a new day. The art class gets practice in lettering. fRusse11Cearney, Mr. Yasseri, Bruce Rob- son, Randy Larsen. J The finished product! A manger scene created by the art class.
