The word “dedication” has several meanings but on this page two definitions are used. One applica- tion of the word means “‘an inscription in a book to a person in testimony of affection of respect’’-the Senior Class of 19841 has “dedicated” the Mliles- tones to Mrs. Susan Patterson, a very “dedicated” person-which is where the second “dedication” comes into use. “Dedication” in this second sense means the devoting of oneself wholly and earnestly to a cause. The shining attribute of Susan Patterson is her ‘““dedication’’ to Kings Mountain Senior High School. This curly-haired pixie of a person gets to school early and doesn’t mind working late. Along with the capable cooperation of Mrs. Mary Taylor, Susan Patterson has worked long and hard to make the Kings Mountain Senior High School newspaper, The Mountaineer an interesting, complete, and innova- tive source of news to the students. In order to provide money for the newspaper Mrs. Patterson has washed cars, sold cakes, conducted contests, held fashion shows, and even dressed up male stu- Dedication Mrs. Susan Patterson 1981 dents as female students. If her ““dedication’” ended there. that would be enough for a “dedication’’ award; but she does more. Susan was co-sponsor of the Muscular Dystro- phy Dance-a-thon last year, and did an excellent job.. She has entertained faculty members at her home and was always the gracious hostess. She even works to further her learning so that she can be better informed, which in turn will help her stu- dents. Perhaps the best example of Susan Patterson's “dedication” is in the classroom. She is sincerely concerned about all of her students and will do everything she can to help someone who comes to her for assistance. Mrs. Patterson is concerned with more than a person's performance in class. She worries about a student’s problems, dilemmas, and gripes in order to determine how she can best teach her students how fo learn. Because of all her dedication the Senior Class of 1981 is proud to dedicate the 1981 Milestones to Mrs. Susan Patterson.
