Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind Smiles we gave to one another For the way we were. Can it be that it was all so simple then Or has time rewritten every line? If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me ... would we, could we? Mem’ries may be beautiful and yet What’s too painful to remember We simply choose to forget But it’s the laughter We will remember Whenever we remember The way we were the way we were .

Steve Baker — B.A. in Social Studies from Pfeiffer College. Junior High School teacher. Senior High School teacher, football, cross country, track and girls basketball coach. Learning Disabilities teacher since 1976. Married to Joan King Baker. Member and Sun- day School teacher at First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. If you’ve ever asked anyone about Steve Baker, you probably received an answer similar to this: “He will go any length to help his students, not for self gratifi- cation but because he cares deeply for each and every human he encounters.” The students at KMSHS have known that for a long time. Kings Mountain set a state record in 1978 with a Muscular Dyp- strophy Dance-a-thon that raised over $6,600. Mr. Baker conceived, organized, and was the driving force behind this suc- cess. At school each day, you can find him running around the halls making sure KMSHS is set for smooth sailing. How can you thank a man who has done so much for a community that it’s impossi- ble to write down all his contributions? The Senior Class you would like to try by dedicating the 1979 MILESTONES to . Mr. Steve Baker.
