ACADEMIC We are the looms through which each thread must pass. The weav- ing is continuous and the threads must not be broken in order to achieve the desired finished product. Each strand of learning makes our cloth stronger, more durable, and more beautiful. Our teachers have fashioned patterns of time and space which blend secrets of mystic knowledge with the reality of clearest vision. Our enrichment of the fabric is only accomplished through labor, which we often resist, but which is essential in the shaping and molding process by which we become truly educated. In our class rooms we have daily oppor- tunities to widen our horizons, strengthen our moral fibers, and enhance our total personalities. As we slowly and painstakingly acquire knowledge and skills, we are aware of a change in our concept of ideals and standards. The superficial is discarded, and we yearn for increased wisdom for its own sake as well as for achievement of personal goals. We find our “place in the sun” only after a firm foundation is laid. 8

Chairman F. Plonk, Mr. 0. Williams, Dr. P. Padgett, Mr. H. Harry, Mrs. J. McGill KINGS MOUNTAIN BOARD OF EDUCATION School business in Kings Mountain has be- come “big business”, and the men and wom- en comprising our school board have given unstintingly of both time and effort in plan- ning, executing, and formulating school policy for the entire system. The tremendous job with its heavy burden of responsibility would stagger men of less vision and courage than our board possesses. Moving forward steadily toward the realiza- tion of a community dream — a new high school plant, we can anticipate a time in the future when our students will occupy a mod- ern structure with a broadened curriculum and wider range of study. Too often we forget to say thank you for past performance and future achievements, but niay the MILESTONES staff do so now with sincerity and gratitude. 10
