The Band helped raise crowd to a tumultous pitch which raised the spirit. Below, Joe Dorner along with Greg Cummins and Candy Sears lead the seniors in a rousing class cheer as the Bonfire end- ed and the Homecoming fes- tivities began. 36 t4s The Hour Grows Near As the Bonfire slowly died people drifted off to work on their floats. Below, Harlan Powskey, John Byrain, and Chuck Casson put their minds together in an effort to get the float painted. All over town classes and clubs searched for space to build their floats. Above, Lisa Wickland puts the finishing touches on the Junior float as Mr. Marzley and Mr. Cun- ningham help the sophomores at the Armory with their effort. 37 Spirit Wa The Above: For the past several years IMPACT has sponsored a window decorating competition which has become a very popular tradition at homecoming. This year over 20 win- dows were painted. Right: The homecoming parade started in the halls this year and the band marched through the halls of the days festivities. 38 Order Of The Day The Parade was led by the Bulldog Mascot, followed by the team bus, and any other mode of transportation that would carry the Bulldog spirited fans, even a boat out of water. 39 The Coronation Of i Pregame and half time festivities filled the stadium. the players entered the field they were greeted by a spirit line which stretched across the field. At the end of the half, the band and the pom pons took over the field and treated the crowd to several different forma- tions ending with the spelling of KHS. 40 lomecoming Queen The moment that everyone had been waiting for came when the five candidates were escorted to the center of the field for the coronation of the Queen. As the crowd held their breath Beth Mankowski was announced the Home- coming Queen of 1979. She was crowned by a former Queen Mrs. Molly Casson. ! The Queen And Her Court Five young ladies were chosen to vie lor Home- coming Queen. Eric Martin makes another of his drive sustaining catches. Mark Olivas recieves vital instruction from coaches Fuller and Stipe. Above, the Bulldog Defense, closes in to stop another Tolleson rushing play. Left. Bobby Olivas fades back to pass with excellent protection. 43 The Thrill Of Victory The thrill of victory From the beginning everyone knew that this game would be one of the toughest of the year. The previous year Tolleson had handed the Bulldogs their lone conference defeat. Kingman set out to avenge that defeat and take a big step toward their first undefeated season. Throughout the game there were many fine plays on both sides and no one breathed a sigh of relief until the final gun was sounded. 44 For One And For All Greg Cummins escorts Beth Mankowski to receive her crown. This year a touch of class was added to the homecoming events as the Queen was chauffered in a Rolls-Royce to Former Queen Molly Casson congratulates the , ,e Homecoming Dance. 1979 Homecoming Queen. Were No I , a constant chant of Kingman High School Varsity Football fans all year. With a record of 9 wins. 2 loses, we may not have taken state, but we had the best team yet to pass through K. H.S. And to the students and fans we were definitely, Number One! Kingmans Varsity Football record of 9 straight wins began with Parker and ended with Peoria. After we beat Peoria almost everyone thought the team would go undefeated for the first time that most could remember. Kingman s luck changed when we were defeated by Cactus in the tenth and final game of the regular season. Although we had lost we still had a shot at the division title, but was over after the first game, being defeated by Gerard, who eventually took State Championship. When interviewed, most of the players spoke highly of their coach, Dean Honsinger. who was named. Conference Coach of the Year. This was Honsingers second year as head coach, and well deserved this award. The coaches do have alot to do with the outcome of a game or an entire season, but the ones on the field, and the ones scoring are the players themselves. Kingman had seven members make All-Conference Offense, and seven All-Conference Defensive teams, and one AII-State. Mike Boggio. Mark Olivas, David Huerta, and Paul Martin made All-Conference first string defensive team, with Pat Patterson. Ron Wolsey and Billy Darrow, second string. Of the seven on AII-Conference offense, Mike Beechler, Bob Ferguson. Eric Martin, and Brian Abraham made first string while Greg Cummins and Tom Barth low on second string. Mark Olivas was the one AII Stater who did a tremendous job all year on defense. We should be proud of these fourteen individuals but we should be especially proud of each and every player who gave his all (or Kingman High School. Scores of the season for each game appear on page 76. 67 From top to bottom, left to right Billy Darrow is running down field with one of his great interceptions of the year, also in the next picture Billy is running through the spirit line with a very determined look on his face.
