1-111- IUNIOR LEAGUE FOOTBALL 1954 The umor League Football Team under the dr rectron of Merr1tt Sawyer had an excellent season as they won the champxonshrp rn th1s area The team consrsted of Captain ack de Bruycher Stuart Brown ohn and Jeff Teets M1ke Waterman George john son Ricky Smlth Bob Consolrno Ted Owens Drake Turrentme and George Smlth The season opened on the Colonlal Road fleld agarnst Harvey The Kmgsmen were v1ctor1ous by a score of 19 6 De Bruycher scored the f1rst touch down as he plunged through the lme The extra pomt was good Harvey however fought rxght back and also scored In the second perlod each teams defense held trghtly untrl there were lust th1rty sec onds left At this polnt de Bruycher agam scored th1s tlme on an end run In the thlrd perlod ohn Teets scored the Maroon and Whlte s final touchdown Thus the game ended Krng wmmng 19 6 In thelr next game the llttle Colonlal Roaders were trnumphant over New Canaan Country Day 19 7 Teets made the first tally on an end run early 1n the first perxod The extra polnt was good In the second quarter de Bruycher ran sixty yards for a score and at the end of the half rt was Krng 15 New Canaan 0 The Krngsmen scored early 1n the second half as de Bruycher threw a pass to Teets Thls ended Kmgs scormg for the day but New Canaan plcked up seven polnts in the last quarter and the game was over The unlor Leaguers played thexr final game at home in a return match w1th New Canaan and agam were VICIOIIOUS 14 7 Klng made xts first touchdown as Teets ran fifty yards for the score The extra pomt was good This was the extent of the scormg for the first half as the ball changed hands many trmes ln the second perlod but there was no scormg In the thlrd quarter the K1ngsmen p1cked up the1r final TD as de Bruycher scored The extra pomt was good New Canaan scored only one tally rn the Hnal mmutes of the game Thus when the gun had sounded the unlor Leaguers had ended a fine season

VARSITY BASKETBALL 1955 The 1955 Krng School Basketball Team clrmaxed a mednocre season by wrnnrng the Southern Connec trcut Prrvate School League Tournament held at St Marys School Durrng the regular campargn the qumtet won four and lost six Coach Evald Olsons charges drd not begm to set a wrnnmg pace untrl the final games of the serres whrch helped account for the tournament vrctory Thrs year s team consrstcd of five returnrng lettermen Captarn Pete Talbott Roger Bacon Fred Wrllrs ack Chesney and Brll Clrff Reynolds and Brll Sherrdan rounded out the squad The Kmgsmen opened the season rn the Stark School gym where all home games were played op posrng therr arch rrvals from New Canaan Lukes The Hrlltoppers had just a lrttle too much for the Colonral Roaders as they squeezed through wrth a 48 43 wxn The game was very close all the way St Luke s leading by fise pornts at the half 79 74 The Maroon and Whrte were just begrnnmg to move rn the thrrd quarter when Talbott Sebra and Chesney fouled out of the game Thrs was a tough break and the Knngsmens opponents stepped up the pace to the vrctory The second game of the campargn was played rn the Stamford Armory agarnst Daycroft and the charges of Coach Olson came through wrth a wrn 38 30 The Colonral Roaders trarled throughout the first half and Krngsmen took command and handrly outplayed therr opponents for the wxn Chesney was the hrgh scorer for Krng wrth fourteen pomts The Maroon and Whrte returned home for their next game and were defeated by Roosevelt 55 50 Roosevelt led by a small margm throughout the game untrl the thrrd quarter when the Kmgsmen tied the score at forty all Then the vlsrtors got four quick pornts and were never rn danger agam Chesney , ' I , .J , I X ' . . ' Smith. Ken Greene, Abbott Schwebel, Ronnie Sebra, th? Sfofe at the m1d'WaY mark Was 1943- Then the ' ' ' - St. , , , - . 37
