I1AtlWEl,l 1 President of School lioarr lFCUJlRlEWCUJlRlD VVQ have wandered over the building' rounding' up a herd of joyous memories. . . This year it has been our purpose to reflect in our activities and pictures, a panorama of life on and off the campus that will re- call happy aehieveinents not only to the Seniors of 1934 but also to those of succeed- ing years and thus to strengthen that bond which unites all Kilgore High School Stu- dents. K if H73 :li ALMA MATIEIR It was back in 1874 that the institution was established that eventually became our high school. Dr. Alexander gave the funds to build the first building for the institution which bore his name. Some forty years ago, about 1894, Alexander Institute suffered from lack of support and was moved to Jacksonville where it assumed the present name of Lon Morris College. With the Institute moved, Kilgore Public Academy of ten grades was established which was continued in the old college buildings until the pres- ent site was donated and a red brick building built in 1912. In 1912 Kilgore High School had its first graduating class with three members who with the rest of the school were taught by a faculty of four. ' This year we moved into our new S250,000 building where we are taught by a faculty of eighteen in high school alone. Our graduating class consists of eighty-six members out of 650 students in high school and we may select our course from twenty-four subjects BOARD OF EDUCATION John E. After the hair ribbons, long curls, short dresses, big bows and knee pants arrived, the fun started. Ring-around-the-rRoses was played by six of our football boys. This delighted all the children. The short dresses and knee pants made us all feel like we acted. tWho said the seniors couldn't lose their dignity every once in a whilel. Santa was kind to us. In the latter part of the evening he gave red peppermint candy sticks to everyone. From the Christmas tree he gave useful gifts that might be needed later--such as rattlers, dolls, pacifiers, doll buggies and dishes. To end a pleasant evening right for little children: after the eats, which were plentiful, Mr. Knight of the Knight Studio took a photograph of the entire group of kiddies. Yes, John Chemoke makes a very good Santa. Just the right size! VALENTINE PARTY Hearts? Yes, everyone had a heart the night of the party given in the Cafeteria by the Seniors. They were in evidence everywhere. Our king, Harlan Crawford, and Queen, Rubye Griffin, were crowned at 9, o'c-lock by Lois Goss, class president. They then presided over the ceremonies of the evening. Many games were enjoyed and later the king and queen gave away kisses icandy onesh. Underclassmen, attired in hearts, brought the eats: Saratoga chips, heart shaped sandwiches and cookies, and olives, which were put away in good form. A few were still suffering from the effects the next day. 'l'l1en everyone departed after expressing thanks to Miss Anglin, our hostess and sponsor, for a most enjoyable evening. THE 1934 REFLECTOR IUNIORSENIOR PROM One of the major social features of the school year was the annual prom staged Friday evening, May 18, in the gymnasium, where the Seniors of '34 were hosts to the Junior Class. Tendrlls of climbing and swinging smilax intermingled with varlcolored balloons in the Junior and Senior class colors converted the gymnasium into a festive setting for the guests who arrived ln gorgeous frocks of pas- tel colorlngs. The program dance consisted of ten numbers with four promenades- serpentine, a balloon, a noise maker, and a swanky hat. Other dance numbers of the evening were free. The music was intoxicating , the refreshments were refreshing and a good time was had by all. MHOBGOBLIN HOUSE Senior Class Play Hobgoblin House, a three act mystery play, was presented April 27, in the Auditorium of Kilgore High School by the Senior class of 1934. ' SYNOPSIS OF THE PLAY: Aunt Priscilla is peeved because her two nieces have fallen ln love with two silly nlcompoopsf' She purchases the old Hobgood House in the foothills of the Ozarks where she plans a safe retreat where the girls shall not see their lovers for at least slx months on penalty of being dlslnherlted. Just as luck would have lt they arrived on the very night that old Bluebeard Bronson, who once committed a murder in the house, is sup- posed to revisit the scene of the crimes. THE 193fi REFLECTOIE JUNIOR VALENTINE PARTY 'On the evening of February ninth, the Junior Class gave their first party in the student activity room, which was beautifully decorated in valen- tine colors. The weather was bad and it seemed the party would be a flop, but, lo! behold! a great crowd gathered all dressed in overalls and aprons, it seemed that these sophisticated juniors had turned once again to their childish pranks. Many games were played, the most interesting being automobile parts, it was player for quite a while. After tiring of games, the victrola was turned on, so we juniors danced the rest of the evening. The dancing was fine until some of our talented juniors decided they would get some of the Band's instruments and play. They were not appreciated however, for they were finally called down for the noise. We were then served with delicious sandwiches, hot chocolate, cookies and red hearts. Valentines were given as favors. Then at a late hour we departed, having enjoyed our first party immensely. Mrs. Mary Bumgarner, Mrs. W. H. Butler, Mrs. J. C. Ray, Mrs. P. E. Barton and Mrs. Mamie Rochelle were special guests. MCARMENAH Carmena, the two-act musical comedy, sponsored by the 1933-34 .Tun- ior class of Kilgore High School, was presented in the school auditorium March 2, at 8:00 P. M., under the direction of William Miller Devereux. The main characters were portrayed by Misses Christine Bagwell, Mildred Hardy, Helen Batte, and Messrs. Harold Cline, Roland Hebert, and Bryan A. Barton. A bevy of graceful and attractive high school boys and girls in gay gypsy costumes in brilliant colors added much to the effectiveness of the setting, a gypsy camp not far from a summer hotel. The proceeds were used to sponsor the Junior-Senior Banquet.
