Mail Call The piping of Flight Quarters over the General Announcing System was sure to raise the hope of mail. Separated by thousands of miles, mail was the vital link home. Be it bills, magazines or the coveted letter from family or friends, any mail was a good thing. Most came onboard a supply flight once each port visit or on the twice weekly mail runs onto Bari, Italy. To our shipmates, it was Pax, Parts and Pony, navy speak for people, parts and MAIL! ,Q X M - 1, h Wg'-'im . The preparations complete, with all but the final good-byes, KIDD shipmates set the Special Sea and Anchor detail. Many wondered just what the next six month would hold. As the departure hour drew near, the finality set in. It would be a long time, but it was something that must be done to keep America strong. With heads held high and a stiff upper lip KIDD took in all lines and ordered all engines ahead two thirds.
