i , s On August 18, the Panthers began the long, grueling practices that are necessary to perfect a football team. This year Keystone acquired a new teacher and coach, Mr. Cary Steele. Under Coach Steele's direction, the boys learned many new tactics and ideas to use against their opponents. To open the season, the Union Knights, a perennially good team, traveled to Keystone for the first game. The Panthers played a long, hard game, but didn't seem to be able to get past the tough Union line. The next game on the schedule was at Moniteau. The Panthers really played a hard game that night, and seemed to be pretty much in control of the scoreboard, but due to penalties, two Keystone touchdowns were called back. This left the Warriors ahead by only one point at the end of the game. The following week the Panthers proved their strength by trouncing Shannock Valley, 21 to 0. And then after losing the next game to the Redbank Bulldogs, the Panthers came back to beat East Brady. Karns City was the Keystone Homecoming game and the boys really tried their best but the game ended with Karns City as the victor. The Panthers lost again to Clarion, but came back again to win over the A. C. V. Falcons. Keystone lost their final game against Brookville, ending the season with a 3 and 6 record. Even though the season ended with more losses than wins none of the boys regret a minute of it. The many memories, such as the fiercely fought Moniteau game, beating Shannock under the lights, the intense spirit leading up to the Homecoming game, and just their personal experiences with each other playing as a team and being under the fine direction of Coach Steele, make up a very integral part of these boys' lives.
