For the past eight years Scotty has been the personification of school spirit to the students of Kayhi. His ready smile and friendly wit have encouraged us and lifted our spirits when the world looked black and we felt as though we didn't have a friend in the world. He has been most understand- ing of our problems and always our staunch- est supporter. We dedicate this annual in gratitude to a friend of our high school years, in ap- preciation of service beyond duty to the high school and the students. M INISTRATIGN if 'M Tucsdfw Tuesday 1-'Y i E Dm' elsori, SUlJff'lHlP'tClf'l1lOl Schools Supenintenclent No one knows better than J. E. Danielson the importance of keeping abreast of the times, the value of anticipating the direction of the flow or progress and preparing for it. Many years ago Mr. Danielson recognized the future need for a new high school building and started working for it. Now we have had that building for two years, and still he continues to plan for the hundreds more students who will pass through the school in the years to come. We can thank Mr. Danielson not only for dreaming, planning and working these past years to give us the new school but for continuing his efforts to create better educational opportunities at Kayhi even after his dream of a new high school building has been a realization for two years. 8 Supenintendentb Wleaaaqe Alexander Pope once wrote: 'Tis education forms the common mind, just as the twig is bent, the tree's inclined. Although much of the child's training is gained in the home and outside the classroom, the school does have an important part in forming the common mind. In addition to providing instruction in the basic fields of learning and in character training, it must also prepare the student for community life. How he lives, acts, and responds to those with whom he associates will not only affect his personal happiness but will also determine the contribution he will make toward the gen- eral betterment of society. The Ketchikan schools have striven conscientiously for the attainment of these goals and it is sincerely hoped that its efforts will bear fruit in the future lives of its students. , .J. E. These activities and events have an important place in the growth and develop- ment of each student. Those who worked in Kayhi not only contributed to the school lite but developed work habits and social attitudes which in turn will be evi- dent in their adult life as citizens of their community. Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Sund Serving Food Cafgetenia By far, the most popular place in the school around noon is the cafeteria. The cooks, Mrs. Harold Miller and Mrs. Arthur Sund, each day prepare a lunch designed to be high in nutritional value as well as delicious and appealing. Since some of the food is government surplus, the cooks must follow meal plans which the government pro- vides. Students pay 35c for each meal which partly defrays expenses. Students help in the work during the three lunch periods and receive a tree lunch forthe work. Students Serve Everyone Eats -.
