MR. LEROY EDIGER
Leroy Ediger was born on Jan. 31, 1940 near York,
Nebraska. He attended school near Aurora, Nebraska
in a oneroom school house. It was durlng the fourth
grade that he really became interested in science
while building a small electric motor. Popular
Mechanics and Popular Science were his source of
He graduated from Aurora High School in 1958,
and attended Tabor College. While at Tabor College
he majored in Chemistry and minored in Mathematics.
To earn money for college Leroy worked in
construction and picked fruit during the summer. He
also had a lab assistant job during the school year,
After graduation he became Laboratory Super -
visor at Tabor College for one year. Following their
marriage, Leroy and his wife Jean both taught at
Centre High School in Kansas. Leroy taught general
math, geometry, biology, and chemistry. Jean
taught English. He taught there for three years.
In the summer of 1966 Leroy received a National
Science Foundation grant to study the Natural History
of California. During the six week course the class
studied marine life, bird life, entomology, mammalogy
geology, and botany. Each participant was required
to make a collection of many specimens.
During 1966-67 Leroy taught Modern Science
at Washington High School in Los Angeles. He did
not enjoy living in such a large city so looked for a
teaching position in the Valley.
In Sept, 1967 he began teaching at Kerman Jr, Hi.
He really enjoyed teaching Jr. Hi. students. In 1969,
with the help of lVlr. Benzler and Nlr. Fazio they began
a Rocket Club. This club probably gave Leroy more
pleasure and joy than any other activity. Nlany
Saturdays were spent at launching rockets and many
evenings were spent building them. In 1970 he at-
tended an aerospace workshop which took him to
NASA space center in Livermore, and Edwards Air
Force Base. Asaclass project that summer he invented a
model airplane for teaching the fundamentals of flight.
The Edigers have two children, Doug is an eighth
grader and Kari is a seventh grader at Yosemite Jr.
Hi. in Fresno.
During 1970-73 Leroy enrolled in a correspondence
course in electronics. As a hobby he repairs electronic
equipment such as radios and TV's. Other hobbies
include photography, woodworking, oil painting, and

He received his administrative credential in 1976
and was appointed vice-principal at the Jr. Hi, in
the fall of 1976. Since January 3, 1978 Leroy has been
Principal of Kerman Intermediate School.
