FBLAFMJA Future Business Leaders, with sponsors Mr. George Poplin, Miss Sharon Shields, and President Martha Spencer, had an active year. Members took part in a field trip to the ECPI, a Computer Center in Fresno. They also attended the Winter Conference in Caruthers, where they competed in various contests including typing, spelling, vocabulary, and parliamen- tary procedures . The winners then competed in the State Convention held in Fresno, The annual initiation included a peanut -roll race and ring-around-the-roseys , which placed losers in the trash cans . A candy sale later in the year, was plan- ned to increase their treasury. Annie and Sandra sat in trash cans. The California Scholarship Federation visited the University of California at Santa Cruz. A group of thirteen with Mr. Jim Seay, the sponsor, and Miss Mary Bowen, left for Santa Cruz after school on December 3, 1970. That evening they attended a movie. After spending a rainy night in an ocean front motel, the CSF'ers toured the UCSC campus. Their guides were Joe Altamirano and Ray Rodriquez, KUHS alumni. As in past years, scholarship is the name of the game for CSF. Tanya Goosev and Kathy Kubo, fall semester president and spring semester president, respectively, and Mr. Seay have done their shares to insure this annual ritual.
