The newly organized Chess Club, with their sponsor Mr. Seay and club president Dan Crane, got off to a good start. Tournaments began in the middle of the year and the winners were awarded with new chess sets. The active members spent the majority of their noon hours in heated competition. Painted faces and strange outfits were worn by the initiates. With the help from their sponsor, Mr. Contreras, and the rest of the members, President Kathy Kubo made plans to take a trip to a Mission on the coast. Spanish Club members enjoyed having money-making projects to increase their treasury. Mr. Contreras and Kathy Kubo get together to talk over future plans.

Some of their money making projects included selling decorative candles during the Christ- mas season and sponsoring an after-game dance. The annual initiation was held in early December and among the many activities were the peanut roll and gunny-sack races.
