SUPERINTENDENT , . .,.,' BETTY DORTON Betty came to Kentland High School in i949 as school sec- retary. Betty graduated from Kentland High School in l944. She married James Dorton of Kentland, and they now reside on Ray Street. As school secretary her iobs are numerous. Among the several iobs, she is secretary and bookkeeper to the Jeffer- son Township Board of Education, secretary to Mr. Tipton and cares for the hot lunch tickets. Even though she is one of the busiest persons in the school, she is never too busy to offer her help and encouragement to the student body. To Betty Dorton, the class of l95l wishes to extend their greatest amount of gratitude. 7 A FRIEND This title could be called an understatement. ln the two years Mr. Ross Tipton has been our superintendent, the student body and the community have thought of Mr. Tipton as a friend, leader and worthy advisor. When Mr. Tipton came to Kentland, we were without an adequate gymnasium. Mr. Tipton is not one to waste time, today a new gymnasium is very near completion. The gym was only half the things Mr. Tipton has done for us, the students. Even in his busiest moments he is never too busy to aid us in our time of need. Very interested in the future of our lives, Mr. Tipton is will- ing to plan our college courses as well as send us on our way. ln times like these it is hard for the senior boy to plan his future. Mr. Tipton has given encouragement to face future with high hopes and fortitude. It is not often meets a man like our superintendent, but when he does, will never forget him. The Senior Class of 'l95'l wish best of luck to a great friend, Mr. Ross Tipton. SECRETARY the one one the

BOARD OF EDUCA'i'lON Largely through the efforts of the above pictured men: Mr. Ross Tipton, Mr. Olsen, Mr. Barce, President of the Board, Mr. Lafern Whaley, the school city of Kentland is now the proud possessor of a new gymnasium which the whole vi- cinity has longed for and dreamed of possessing for their very own. For more than ten years now, the students, the alumni, townspeople, and sports fans have been wishing, hoping, and working on what at first seemed im- possible--a new gymnasium for Kentland. For nearly a decade the loyal hardwood fans have traveled hundreds of miles in all sorts of weather to follow the local netters, but now, at last, it will be possible, come basketball season of 'l95l-52, for a thousand Kentlandites to make the rafters ring when the home team plays its first game in the home gym--A Thrill for young and old alike. It has taken many years of legal work and now more than a year of actual construction time. Mainly through a sinking tund, money was raised for this 5200,000 structure. 6
