Jin A note of sadness entered Kensington this year, because one of our dear- est friends and staunchest supporters is no longer with us, a man who loved wisdom and lived according to its dictates, a life of simplicity, independence, magnanimity and trust, John Nicholas Chassin. He devoted his entire life to the cause of proper education. He was a champion ofthe Arts and Sciences and believed that all well educated people should be grounded in these and in well-defined moral principles. As a teacher and administrator he stressed the importance of mental discipline and high ethical standards. He has influenced the lives of thousands on their journey from boys and girls to men and women, and all look back in grateful appreciation for the high principles which he helped develop in their characters. On his passing, people in all walks of life bowed their heads in prayer and with saddened hearts realized they had lost a true friend, a friend who had enriched their lives far beyond their ability to measure, who through his in- spired direction gave them an appreciation of values which have resulted in well-ordered, happy lives. Galsworthy said, By the friends they cultivated, the books they read, the music they enjoy and the impression they leave on the lives of others, you shall know the texture of men's souls.
