STANDING Miss Elizahcth Meach, Miss Ethel M. C. Davis, Mr. Raymond Fisher. ART Whether you are a novice or a talented artist, one of our art courses is suited for you. This de- partment, staffed by Miss Davis and Mr, Fisher, offers the students a knowledge of art and its value in everyday life. Beginners draw, paint and design for definite purposes. They are surprised to learn of all the opportunities to apply artistic principles in one's daily routines. The artists also coordinate their work with many school activities. Posters, advertising material, and scenery all come from the second floor corner. HOMEMAKING The future homemakers and mothers of America receive adequate and proper training at Kensington through the instructions of the capable teachers. The curriculum includes domestic subjects like clothing and home furnishings, food and personal development, family living, home nursing, child care, advanced food and clothing, and even a special course for boys. Many of the students enroll in after school clubs to participate in kindred activities. Mrs. Hyman, Miss Nesper, Miss Meach, and Miss Stoesser comprise the homemaking faculty. MUSIC Pouring forth, eternally, from the music depart- ment of our school are some of the most valuable and delightful activities offered at Kensington in the form of rhythms and melodies ln music as in any art, individual expression or interpretation separates the average from the gifted person. Here, in both vocal and instrumental fields under the direction of Miss Townsend and Mr. Geiger, is this oppor- tunity to prove themselves. Whether possessing talent, or just a natural liking for music everyone appreciates this part of our school curriculum. Playing a vital role in our music program are - orchestra, a cappella choir, harmony, history of music, band, rudiments, chorus, theory. The test may reason and welcome, 'Tis we musicians know. INDUSTRIAL ARTS The main function of the Industrial Arts Depart- ment is to develop a student's manual dexterity. Under the watchful eye of Dr. Salisbury, a student progresses from elementary woodworking to ad- vanced metalworking, Written work is also a very essential part of Industrial Arts. ln all its phases, a study of Industrial Arts enriches a student both physically and mentally.

COMMERCIAL A number of Kensington's graduates will in the future enter the business professions. These stu- dents will not have to face an unknown and dark world like the sea, for they have had a preview of what is in store for them. Typewriting, shorthand, bookkeeping, business arithmetic, and secretarial and office practice, -all are taught by our out- standing commercial department. This gives the students the knowledge and skills which will enable them to perform competently their first jobs in the business world. PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SWIMMING The aims of the physical education department are compatible with those of education in general. WATERS STILLED AT EVEN . . . IN MEMORIAM . . MISS VERNA WALKER Miss Verna Walker Kensington High School 1937-54 All of us at Kensington who knew Miss Verna Walker will remember her always for her companionship, her thoughtfulness, and the warmth and cheer of her cordial personality. She was never too busy to help her students with understanding counsel and creative ideas. Her guiding hand was willingly extended to stimulate and encourage our individual development. Our beloved teacher lived democracy and taught democracy. To her classes, she brought a wealth of knowledge and an enthusiastic presentation. Her interest in world situations was carried over to her leadership of the Kensington Council on World Affairs and its part in the U. N. Model Assembly in Western New York. Her loyalty to our school was further evidenced by her presence at school functions. The way she vigorously entered into the spirit of every occasion stimulated the enthusiasm of us all. Gladly did she learn and gladly teach. Loyal as Miss Walker was to every phase of school activity, she often let us know how dear her family was to her, an instance being at Christmas time when she mentioned a treasured gift once received from a beloved nephew. For all of us she was A perfect woman, nobly planned, to warm, to comfort and to command. She has taken her bright candle and has gone into another room I cannot tinclp But anyone can tell where she has been by all the little lights she leaves behind. MEMORIAL ASSEMBLY . . .
