ADMINISTRATION RULING THE VAST KINGDOM OF UNDERSEA LIFE IS THE POWERFUL AND EFFICIENT KING NEPTUNE. HE SITS ON HIS THRONE HOLDING HIS WELL-KNOWN SYMBOL OF POWER, THE TRIDENT. FROM THIS SEAT HE CAPABLY HANDLES ALL THE BUSINESS OF RULING HIS SEA KINGDOM, WHETHER IT BE DIS- CIPLING MARINE LIFE OR STIRRING THE SEA INTO A TURMOIL. SUCH EFFICIENCY IS PRESENT IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF KENSINGTON. OUR EDUCATORS REMAIN IN THE BACKGROUND BUT LIKE NEPTUNE ARE EVER EXERTING A MOLDING FORCE. WE ARE CONSTANTLY STIMULATED AND ENCOURAGED BY THEIR SKILLFUL GUIDANCE AS WE PASS THROUGH THE TURBULENT STREAMS TOWARD KNOWLEDGE. ON OUR VOYAGE, SOMETIMES CALM, SOMETIMES STORMY, WE LEARN METHODS THAT MAY FACILITATE THE SOLUTIONS OF PROBLEMS THAT WILL PRESENT THEMSELVES IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS A VAST UNCHARTED COURSE, BUT THE WATERS OF THESE STREAMS SERVE AS A MIGHTY FORMING AND ENRICHING POWER. THE STREAMS OF KNOWLEDGE OFFER A LASTING AND CHALLENGING MYSTERY. WE ARE FORTUNATE IN HAVING IN OUR SCHOOL THE SOUND, FIRM LEAD NEPTUNE FURNISHES HIS KINGDOM. ERSHIP WHICH AS THE WATERS OF THE OCEAN CONSTANTLY EBB AND FLOW, SO ARE WE PROGRESSINQ, TOWARD THE MYSTERIOUS GULF OF FUTURE LIFE. THE FACULTY HAS PREPARED US TO FACE THE P THE FUTURE AND FOR THIS THEY CERTAINLY DESERVE OUR HEARTFELT THANKS. ROBLEMS OF MANY A GREEN ISLE NEEDS MUST BE IN THE DEEP WIDE SEA. 8

WE WELCOME DR. EWING, NEW SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Dr. Parmer L. Ewing of the city, it follows that needs of children are not everywhere the same. The individual school should be free to develop programs adapted to the popula- tion group it serves. The educational program through which the schools endeavor to meet these objectives should vary in accordance with the dif- ferent needs in various areas of the city. We are very grateful to you, Dr. Ewing, for accepting our urgent call to be shepherd of such a great flock. Very confident are we, that with your rich, varied experience, expert leadership, and wise guidance you will lead us to the green pastures of a secure, happy, and successful future. May God inspire and guide you in this tremendous task! .-.N Q, . ,- Last September, the Board of Educa- tion selected Dr. Parmer L. Ewing to fulfill the duties of Superintendent of Schools. Prior to this appointment, he served as Superintendent of Schools at White Plains, New York, for three years. Dr. Ewing was born in Casey, lllinois. He attended schools there, and received his higher education at the University of Illinois. There he earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees. However, his doctorate was awarded to him at New York University. He served in various capacities in the educational systems in Shelbyville, High- land, Alton, and Rockford, Illinois. ln addition to this Dr. Ewing conducted a workshop at the University of Chicago, and taught graduate students at both the University of Illinois and New York Uni- versity. Besides this, he found time to write articles for several publications as well as for the i947 Yearbook of the Association for Supervision and Curricu- lum Development. Dr, Ewing stresses that the educational program in the Buffalo Public Schools should not be standardized. Because social backgrounds differ in various areas 94 5 1
