. . . administration We, today's high school students . . . potential leaders of tomorrow . . . look toward our administration for guidance in preparing for and ultimately building the Future . . . a myriad of stairs, which day by day . . . year by year . . . we ascend . . . with the increased acceleration demanded by the modern world . . . never reaching the ever-beckoning top. Each step represents advancement . . . in science, mathematics . . . in commerce, history . . . in athletics . . . in languages, literature and the arts. To carry on this endless progress we are taught . . , not to become scholars . . . but to urge, excite, stimulate . . . foresight and imagination. We are willingly guided, ably advised, competently counseled . . . so that with sustained purpose we may climb these intriguing stairs. Besides the regular course of study . . . better and better assemblies, better and better speakers, better and better movies . . . create, inspire, instill . . . a wholesome desire for knowledge, increased part- icipation in sports, after-school activities, meetings of parents and faculty . . . all planned by our administration . . . all toward one goal, the Future . . . making the impossible, pos- sible . . . the probable, actual. . . . dedication The Spirit of Kensington High School - This epithet aptly characterizes Mr. john N. Chassin. As principal and assistant principal he has guided us since the autumn of I937 when our first faculty contrived to set the infant Kensington on its feet: dur- ing the hard war years of record bond sales and scrap collections, in the present period of widespread insecurity and doubtg ever shaping and designing our future's role. Our institution has responded to his careful guidance with a growth in stature and in- fluenceg our improved facilities and our higher academic standards are matched by a new prestige. Proudly, Mr. Chassin shares our satisfaction in scholastic advancement and extra-curricular innovations: earnestly he enjoys directing the activities of a pro- gressive high school. Because, to our class, he so thoroughly exemplifies the Kensington concept of a complete citizen, we use the l953 COM- PASS to salute Mr. Chassin. For, although he has wholeheartedly dedicated himself, as educator and administrator, to the con- cerns of our school and has utilized every opportunity to better it, he has found time along the way for diversions such as golf, fishing and bowling, as well as extensive reading for recreation and understanding. Further, he has always been a leading ex- ponent of patriotism, civic and national loyalty, regard for parents and family, and sensible consideration of religion and mor- ality. Since he believes that every facet of a student's personality must be polished, he encourages participation in sports, music, art, and our wealth of other activities. Mr. Chassin is the possessor of a remark- able ability to conduct school affairs har- moniously. Teachers and students alike can attest his fairness, his sound decisions, his impartiality. Mr. Chassin's talks before assembly model an integrity, spontaneous sincerity and aversion to platitudes. ln per- sonal interviews, he can be keen while considerate, and one can note the whimsical sense of humor woven into the fabric of his everyday remarks. Finally, what better inspiration for our vote of confidence than the celebrated pencil cheer? Precise, encouraging . . . pleasant, it is a symbol of Mr. Chassin, our mentor and our friend. . . . Gladly would he learn and gladly teach. - Chaucer .- 0- ' EIN 'er . ,- w wf . ., 1--, .- , -9 '. 3'-ttf N gslf-1-ill: V' T 0 , - t fi C-iw ..
