our CaptaIn whom we recognI7ed as our old frlend Fred Baughman He told us how he loy ed the ocean and that he had gradually rIsen untIl he became captaIn I espeelally enjoyed vIsItIng London that rounds through the bulldlngs and were about to leave when someone touched me on the arm I turned and beheld Mary DeVoe' She InvIted us to IemaIn to a lecture whlch she was golng to de lIyer that afternoon to the House of Commons You know that she IS famous as a leadel IH socIal SCIVICQ work I am sure her speech made an Impresslon upon the House We yIsIted seyeral cItIes In Germany before goIng to the capItal but arranged to spend the longest tIme In Berlln The famous UnIversIty of Berlm IS wonderful we spent a whole day In X1SltlI'1g'lt I was Indeed surprlsed to f1nd Arnold MQTICH studyIng there I met hIm comIng out of one of the buIldIngs as we were gomg IH He now nas the degrees of A M LL D and wIll soon get hIs Ph D He very kIndly showed us around the grounds Spectacles excepted he seemed to be the same Arnold that I knew In K H S PHTIS that cIty wIth a hIstory but nevertheless a cIty whlch leads In IIS art scIence and love of the beautIful could not be overlooked We spent two yery happy weeks there VlSltlng places of hIstorIcal Interest drIvIng on Its beautlful boulevards and last but not least lookIng In ltS stores and exclusIve shops I thought I must haye one gown made by a I-'arIsIan IIIPSSYTIHICQI I was dIrected to an establlshment on one of the fashIonable streets In answer to nIy PINK a maId ushered me IHIO a re ceptIon room whIch was yery elegantly furmshed In a few mlnutes a lIttle lady came tflpplng In dressed In the latest fashlon Upon arlslng to meet he1 I came face to face wlth MIldred France or Madamoselle I' rance as she lb known In Parls She seemed glad to see me and we talk ed oyer the many good tImes we used to haye In K H S She made my gown and I was greatly pleased To me Swltzerland IS the most beautlful country whIch we yIsIted Its snow covered Alps IIS pretty lakes ltS qualnt people are all yery fascmatmg As you know the lIttle town of Altorf lb famous because of the legend of Wllhelm Tell Asl was yIewIng the Tell Monument I notlced a man taklng movIng plctures upon drawIng near whom should I see but the PresIdent of our Semor Class Doc OtIs He was taklng DIC tures for the Howe s MOIIOH PIcture Co Of course we mentIoned how many tlmes we had heard about thIs town when we studled WIlhelm Tell In Semor German and It seemed strange that we should both be there at the same tIme days we made trIps from the Clty of Calro to the yarlous l1IstorIcal ruIns One day a large party of tourlsts left the clty and when reachIng the edge of the desert we all mounted camels We were on our way to the PyramIds DurIng the Journey I happened for a whIle to be rIdIng be Slde an elderly gentleman yery dIstInguIshed looklng A lady was only about two yards away on the other sIde of hIm but at the tlme I dId not notIce her We spoke a few words regardmg the trIp and at the s Iund of my YOICC the lady approached me Iwas Indeed surprIsed to recog nlze my Old frIend MarIe WhItford She Immedlately Introduced the elderly gentleman as her husband I understand that he IS Presldenf of ChIcago UnIye1sIty and that he became yery much Interested In MarIe whIle she was attendIng the UHIVQYSIIQ He IS a wealthy nIan and dur Ing hIs leave of absence they we-Ie takIng thIs pleasuxe tIIp Marle says that LIIIIQ Pleper has a yery responsIble posIt1on as Inter preter for a large manufacturlng company IH ChIe-ago and Ib doIng yery we1l Indeed She sees her quIte often Once IH a whlle I see Earl Kern f0l he llyes here In San FrancIsco I see hIs cartoons IH the papeI near ly eyexy day foI he IS carteomst for one of the leadIng
